Kota Kita, where citizens are at the heart of decision-making
Simone Galimberti (The Jakarta Post) PREMIUM Kathmandu ● Sat, June 25 2022 Since President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo was raised to power, Indonesia has become known for being a trailblazer in institutionalizing and localizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). In simple terms, it means using the global framework of the Agenda 2030 with its 17 SDGs to promote development at local levels by essentially, at least on the paper, involving the people through bottom-up approaches. As we know, Indonesia was the first country to have special legislation that activated SDGs-centered local governance, a true model for many other countries, including the most developed nations. Yet I have been wondering how this framework really works on the ground, and while I am still searching for answers, I tend to believe that any formal governance set up, even the most perfect one and most able to involve and include the people, should become a sort of “open source” framework. to … [Read more...] about Kota Kita, where citizens are at the heart of decision-making
Ford Is Making a Big Change to the Way You Lease an EV
For many a driver, leasing a vehicle rather than buying it outright can be appealing. The fact that most automakers let you purchase a vehicle once your lease is up adds another wrinkle into the proceedings — but if you’ve fallen in love with a particular car or truck, it makes sense to have that as an option. You get to keep the vehicle you’ve gotten used to, the car manufacturer gets a significant amount of money — it’s a win-win for everyone. As Autoblog reports , Ford has announced that it’s getting rid of the ability of leaseholders to purchase their electric vehicles once their lease period is up. An article at CarsDirect has more information on the planned changes. According to a letter that Ford Credit sent to dealers, it’s requesting that all electric vehicles be returned to dealers when the terms of the lease end. These changes are set to affect drivers looking to lease the Mustang Mach-E, E-Transit and F-150 Lightning. with old EV batteries . Half of Gen Z ‘use social media to make themselves look more interesting’
Half of Gen Z claim social media is the only place they can truly be themselves, according to a poll that also found young adults are using platforms like Tiktok to make it appear their lives are more exciting than in reality. A study of 1,000 people aged between 18 and 25 found more than one-fifth generally did not like to expose their true personality, with three in 10 being more self-expressive online. As many as 58 per cent found having an online presence made them feel more comfortable in their own skin, while 34 per cent thought this was made easier by taking on a persona. Lack of confidence (55 per cent), pressure from society (34 per cent) and judgement from others (42 per cent) were among the top reasons why young people struggled with being themselves. Half owned up to having a “secret” alter ego they hid behind, and a similar proportion used social media to try and make their life seem more exciting than it really is. Fake name Prince William used so that he could fly under the radar at university
The Royal Family are known all over the world by their long, official titles. The current royals are the descendants from an unbroken sovereign chain which stretches back nearly 1000 years and includes some of the most famous historical figures, from William the Conqueror to Henry VIII. But behind the formality and away from the glaring media spotlight, the royals are just like any other family. They share jokes, buy each other ridiculous presents and even have silly nicknames for one another. While the different names are used for the most part as terms of endearment, there are several examples of them being used to protect the privacy the royals and allow them to be as normal as possible. Singapore brewery makes beer from recycled wastewater… and urine
Hops, malts and yeast are the ingredients you might first think of when it comes to making beer. However, it's impossible to make beer without one essential thing: water. Brewers take care to choose specific waters to obtain their desired result. For example, hard water is preferred for making strong beer. Beer can be made using processed wastewater. In Singapore, a new and more responsible way to brew beer has been found by filtering wastewater. Since 2003, a program called NEWater has developed a treatment system to renew the water consumed by the population. The liquid, which logically also contains urine, undergoes various purification stages, including microfiltration and ultraviolet disinfection. This process eliminates bacteria, viruses and other particles. Marketed by the Brewerkz brewery in packs of three, this unusual beer is also prepared with German barley malts, American hops and a strain of yeast from Norway. This beer, called NEWBrew, can be enjoyed as a … [Read more...] about Singapore brewery makes beer from recycled wastewater… and urine

Making inroads into Telangana
When Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited BJP corporators of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to New Delhi for an informal meeting this month, he sent out two messages. The first was to show that the BJP is a party which gives importance to grassroots leaders and that these leaders have access to the top leadership, in sharp contrast to the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) where Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s official residence-cum-office is out of bounds for even his own ministers. The second was that the top leadership is serious about the 2023 Assembly elections in Telangana where it expects to mount a serious challenge to the TRS. After Karnataka and Puducherry, the BJP sees Telangana as the next best bet for its expansion in the south. The party created history two years ago when it won as many as 48 seats (from just four in 2016) in the 150-member GHMC civic body. In the Assembly elections of 2018, Raja Singh from Goshamahal was the only BJP … [Read more...] about Making inroads into Telangana
