A bench of Justice S Manikumar and Subramonium Prasad issued a notice to these service providers as it enlarged the scope of a petition moved by Antony Clement Rubin seeking directions to the government to make linking of Aadhaar or any one of the government-authorized identity proof mandatory for authentication while creating e-mail and other social media accounts. Rubin has pleaded that linking of government-issued ID proof to create accounts on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Twitter or utility accounts like PayTM, Uber, Ola, Gmail, Yahoo and HotMail) would help in tackling rising cyber crimes and incidents of cyber defamations … [Read more...] about Madras HC Issues Notice To FB, Twitter, WhatsApp, Google, YouTube On Plea For Linking Aadhaar To E-Mail, Other Accounts

Linking Social Media A/C To Aadhaar: Madras HC Tells YouTube, Google LLC To Enter Appearance Even As Notice Served On Google India

Share Tweet Plus One Pin It Email Print By: Akanksha Jain November 5, 2018 11:22 am Change Font Size In no mood to delay the proceedings in a PIL revolving around linking online identity of users with Aadhaar or other government-authorised ID proof and making social media companies duty-bound to assist probe agencies in criminal matters especially cyber crimes, the Madras High Court has directed Google LLC and YouTube to appear before it even as the notice issued to them was served on their subsidiary Google India. The court was of the view that issuing fresh notice would delay the disposal of the writ petition and that Google India, which is a subsidiary, can inform its parent company and sister concern about the orders passed … [Read more...] about Linking Social Media A/C To Aadhaar: Madras HC Tells YouTube, Google LLC To Enter Appearance Even As Notice Served On Google India

YouTube lets hundreds of extremists post hundreds of jihadist videos online

· July 24, 2018 ·

YOUTUBE allows extremists to spread jihadist propaganda online by exploiting holes in the website's filters, it emerged today. The site has a two-hour target for taking down terror content - but it misses that target in a quarter of all cases, a report reveals. Extremist videos end up getting more than 12,000 views a week, allowing the jihadist message to spread across the world. Among the clips which have been freely uploaded to YouTube is a bomb-making video used by the Manchester Arena attacker. Another film available on the website, which is owned by Google, shows a terrorist threatening to kill Prince Harry. The Counter Extremism Project monitored YouTube for three months to see how much extremist content slips through the net. During that time, 229 terror videos which had previously been identified and removed were re-uploaded to the site - with 24 per cent staying up for more than the two-hour time limit. The clips got a total of 163,000 views - potentially exposing thousands of … [Read more...] about YouTube lets hundreds of extremists post hundreds of jihadist videos online
