In Chennai, this is the season we get our beach bods ready. For it’s time for the annual Covelong Point Surf.Music.Yoga Festival, an event that’s made itself a permanent fixture in most festival hoppers’ calendars. The sixth edition will take place from August 17 to 19 at Covelong. While Friday is for the serious surfers and sports enthusiasts, the actual festival with all the music, entertainment and scrumptious food will unfold on Saturday and Sunday. “The qualifying rounds will be conducted on Friday. There are around 150 surfers participating this time,” says Arun Vasu, chairman and managing director, TT Logistics and Cargo and founder of the festival along with Murthy Megavan and Yotam Agam. World football governing body FIFA has threatened to suspend the AIFF and strip off its right to host the women's U-17 World Cup in October due to a third party "influence", a development which comes just days after the Supreme Court's directive to hold elections of the national federation. The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the executive committee of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) to expeditiously hold elections as per the schedule proposed by the Committee of Administrators (CoA), which is currently running the affairs of the national federation. It took note of the fact that India is due to host the FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup from October 11. The elections were to be held on August 28 and the poll process was to start on August 13, as the top court approved the time-line prepared by the CoA. With 19,893 new coronavirus infections being reported in a day, India’s total tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 4,40,87,037, while the active cases dipped to 1,36,478, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Thursday. The death toll climbed to 5,26,530 with 53 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated. The active cases comprise 0.31 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.50 per cent, the ministry said. A decrease of 579 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours. India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. Karnataka on Thursday recorded 1,992 new COVID-19 infections taking the total number of cases to 40,14,514. With this the day’s Test Positivity Rate (TPR) stood at 6.46% and the weekly TPR touched 6.33%. Of the new cases, 1,342 have been reported from Bengaluru Urban alone. With three deaths, the State’s toll touched 40,111. Besides, 42 deaths of patients due to non-COVID-19 reasons have also been recorded. As many as 2,107 persons were discharged on Thursday taking the total recoveries to 39,63,294. Active cases stood at 11,067 on Thursday. As many as 30,834 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, including 22,236 RT-PCR tests. The death toll has climbed to 5,26,649 with 49 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated. The active cases comprise 0.31 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.50 per cent, the ministry said. A decrease of 571 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in 24 hours. The daily positivity rate was recorded at 4.96 per cent and the weekly positivity rate was 4.63 per cent, it said.
