When was the RNLI founded? The Royal National Lifeboat Institution was founded in 1824 as the National Institution for the Preservation of Life from Shipwreck by Sir William Hillary, Thomas Wilson MP and merchant George Hibbert. Hillary had drawn up plans for a national lifeboat service in 1808, but received no support from the admiralty. However, wealthy Londoners eventually donated enough cash for the organisation to be formed. It is estimated to have saved more than 140,000 lives since its formation. How is it funded? The RNLI's £405,000-per-day budget is funded almost entirely through legacies and voluntary donations, with the remainder coming from merchandising and investment. LONDON’S streets have once again been splashed with blood after three people were injured in a shooting outside Kingsbury tube station on Monday night. Emergency services rushed to the scene on Kingsbury Road, Brent in North West London at around 9.45pm. Is Kingsbury tube station closed? Kingsbury Tube station is currently open as normal, and trains on the Jubilee line are coming and going without significant delays. It was shut down last night as officers responded to the shooting, but reopened again this morning. TfL are reporting a good service from this station. When was the shooting? A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service said they were called at 9.43pm and said a 30-year-old woman and two men - aged 18 and 24- had been rushed to hospital all with gun shot wounds. Masood mowed people down by driving a 4x4 vehicle on the pavement on Westminster Bridge, before crashing into the gates outside the Houses of Parliament. He then ran into the Parliament compound, carrying two blades where he fatally stabbed a police officer. AN M25 coach crash in Kent has left families on a day out to Portsmouth badly injured after turning over on one of Europe’s busiest motorways. Here is what we know so far. What caused the M25 coach crash? It is unclear at the moment, but shortly after the M25 smash the police said the coach was “in collision”. Some eye-witnesses took to Twitter and claimed the vehicle ploughed through a barrier. Is the M25 closed to traffic? A Highways England spokesman said the M25 anti-clockwise is fully blocked at Junction three. That same junction’s anti-clockwise exit slip road was also closed to allow the emergency services work at the scene. Severe delays of more than an hour and a half are expected.
