BRAVE divers and military sailors have begun a dangerous mission to save 12 Thai boys and their football coach. Thirteen foreign divers and five members of Thailand's elite navy SEAL unit went in to the perilous Tham Luang cave on July 8 at 4am BST. Here's what we know... What's the plan to save the trapped boys? On July 8, the first day of the dangerous mission, rescuers ushered four boys to safety. They were forced to trawl through dark, narrow passageways, some of which are no more than two feet (0.6 metre) wide. This is the dangerous route that claimed former Thai Navy SEAL Saman Kunan's life after he ran out of oxygen. The first two boys were rescued at around 6pm local time. BRITS are pinning their hopes on basking in the hottest May Day bank holiday ever - but have been warned the warm weather won't last for long. Temperatures are expected to creep above average from today, with the mercury potentially soaring to a scorching 30C on Monday. Met Office meteorologist Sophie Yeomans gave a cautious forecast for Monday of 27C, saying: "Temperatures are building up gradually day on day as we heard towards the Bank Holiday. "Temperatures look to tip maybe 16 to 17C today somewhere in the South East, and we'll gradually see temperatures come up." A MINI-HEATWAVE may return next month with a 23C forecast as Britain prepares to bask in the "Beauty from the East". Temperatures this week returned to the mid to low teens after a weekend of sizzling heat - but there are hopes they could peak again in time for the May Bank Holiday. The mercury has now dropped back down to around 12C this week - but some forecasts predict a return of the glorious spring-time sunshine. Brian Gaze from Weather Outlook said temperatures could rise again to up to 18C in the South East by the middle of next week - but warns it won't last. Temperatures will be changeable over the next couple of weeks, but could jump back up for the coming Bank Holiday. In contrast to the loathed "Beast from the East", its "Beauty from the East" counterpart describes the predicted onset of a high pressure front, bringing warmer air from the East to the West. Mr Gaze explained: "We could see temperatures picking back up from the Bank Holiday weekend, in the second week of May. … [Read more...] about UK weather – mini-heatwave may return next month with 23C forecast as Britain basks in ‘Beauty from the East’
