Good morning, Bay Area. It’s Wednesday, Aug. 10, and the two best-selling cars in California so far this year are both Teslas. Here’s what you need to know to start your day. Erosion hot spots Coastal cliffs in California’s far northern counties are eroding faster than those elsewhere in the state, according to a new study that used high-resolution data to pinpoint hot spots where cliffs are receding rapidly along the state’s entire coast. In the Bay Area, locations with some of the highest rates of clifftop erosion include Daly City, Pacifica and Bodega Bay, according to the study published this month by researchers at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego. The highest erosion rates were found near Humboldt Bay and in a few remote locations in Del Norte County. Far Northern California may have the worst erosion because it has more rainfall and larger waves, but more surveys will be needed to demonstrate a direct relationship, according to the study’s authors. … [Read more...] about Bay Briefing: Where California’s coastal cliffs are crumbling fastest

America’s New Monkeypox Strategy Rests on a Single Study
Once again, the United States is messing up its approach to vaccines. Three months into its monkeypox outbreak, just 620,000 doses of the two-injection Jynneos shot—the nation’s current best immune defense against the virus—have been shipped to states , not nearly enough to immunize the 1.6 million to 1.7 million Americans that the CDC considers at highest risk. The FDA issued an emergency-use authorization for the strategy yesterday afternoon. This dose-sparing tactic will allow far more people to sign up for doses before summer’s end; if successful, it could help contain the outbreak in the U.S., which currently accounts for nearly a third of the world’s documented … [Read more...] about America’s New Monkeypox Strategy Rests on a Single Study

Fans of the show have let this displeasure be known, causing the hashtag "#CancelNetflix" to trend high on Twitter on Wednesday. The streamer released all eight episodes of First Kill 's first season in June . Though reviews were lukewarm, the show quickly developed a dedicated following and has multiple fan accounts on social media platforms and an 89 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The call on social media by many subscribers to cancel Netflix accounts comes after the company announced on July 19 that it lost just under 1 million subscribers in the second quarter. Netflix's earnings have also been down recently after it faced controversy for a plan to charge users who share their accounts more money for their subscriptions.
