“Outrageous and indefensible”: Labour councillor suspended over “hate-filled” Islamophobic slur about SNP minister

A Labour councillor has been suspended over a hate-filled racist slur he made about the Scottish Transport Minister, bizarrely claiming no one could see him "under the burka". Jim Dempster told shocked government officials that if SNP minister Humza Yousaf ever visited the region “no one would have seen him under the Burka”. The Scottish Dumfries and Galloway councillor's Islamophobic comments have now been compared to those allegedly made at a 'BNP rally'. Horrified Transport Scotland officials, who were meeting Dempster to discuss roads, lodged an official complaint to the council after the incident. Yousaf was so enraged over the comments that he wrote to Scottish Labour leader Richard Leonard demanding action, the Daily Record reports.
