Before the 2018 NFL season began, the Philadelphia Eagles' matchup against the Minnesota Vikings looked like a blockbuster event. Instead, it has turned into something of a survival game for each team, probably more so for the 1-2-1 Vikes, who play in a more talented division than the 2-2 Birds. The Eagles embarrassed the Vikings in the NFC Championship Game last January, though the Vikings will come into Philly this time a around looking somewhat different. Offensively, they have Dalvin Cook back from injury, and of course, they backed up the Brinks truck for Kirk Cousins this offseason. After a sloppy-but-impressive win over the Atlanta Falcons, the Philadelphia Eagles will take on another NFC South challenger in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who put up 48 points on the Saints Week 1. Here are five matchups to watch.1) The Bucs' big play receivers vs. the Eagles' cornersIn Week 1 against the Falcons, a familiar issue reared its ugly head. Instead, the throw led Jones to the outside, Jones didn't catch it cleanly initially, and then the officials blew the call when Jones was able to regain control of it in bounds for what should have been about a 55-yard gain. The Eagles avoided a disaster there, but the double moves remain a problem. The strength of the Buccaneers roster is their pair of downfield threats in DeSean Jackson and Mike Evans. Jackson, as … [Read more...] about Eagles vs. Buccaneers: Five matchups to watch

WASHINGTON — Already facing a one-game deficit in their second-round series, the challenge for the Washington Capitals could be made even more difficult as they look to mount a comeback against the Pittsburgh Penguins. On Saturday, Penguins center Evgeni Malkin participated fully in practice wearing the usual yellow jersey, as opposed to a non-contact jersey typically designated for injured players. Malkin missed the Penguins’ 3-2 series-opening win on Thursday with a lower-body injury, but Pittsburgh’s leading scorer during the regular season could return to their lineup for Game 2 Sunday (3:00 p.m.; WFED 1500AM). “I’m fine today, I feel so much better,” Malkin told reporters after the Penguins practiced at Capital One Arena. “We’ll see [how] I feel tonight and overnight, I can’t say right now [if I’ll play], but it feels better.” Pittsburgh Head Coach Mike Sullivan confirmed that Malkin’s availability will be a … [Read more...] about Could Capitals deploy Backstrom’s line vs. Crosby’s line in Game 2?
