Nearly two dozen adult and child sex trafficking victims were rescued in the Denver metro area by the FBI Denver’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force and more than 40 agencies across the Front Range in August as part of a national operation to rescue people exploited by human trafficking. Over a three-day period from Aug. 4-6, 11 child victims and 11 adult victims of sexual exploitation were recovered in the Denver area in Operation Cross Country , a national FBI initiative focused on identifying and locating victims, primarily children, of sex trafficking, the FBI Denver Field Office announce on Tuesday. In addition to the victims, 27 missing or endangered children were located, and six traffickers were identified. Two were arrested on unrelated felony warrants. Continuing drought conditions in the U.S. southwestern region forced federal officials to announce drastic and unprecedented cuts to the water supplies to two states and Mexico. Lakes and reservoirs along the Colorado River are at historic low levels. For the first time, officials with the U.S. Department of Interior announced plans to operate in a “Tier 2 shortage,” Fox Weather reported . The plan includes increased cuts in water releases from Lakes Powell and Mead. The new mandatory water cuts come after Lake Mead and Lake Powell continue to reach record lows due to climate change. A megadrought and an increase in consumption from Lake Mead caused water levels to drop to an 80-year low. A tourist in Thailand was arrested after posting a video on TikTok showing himself illegally fishing in a national park . The video prompted outrage from local citizens who saw the clip online. Roslan Benedia shared the video last week, featuring himself with two parrotfish, three unknown fish and an eel, all stabbed in the head, on a boat in Hat Noppharat Thara-Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park, Fishing in national parks is illegal in Thailand. Benedia later deleted the video from his TikTok account, but not before Thai officials saw it, prompting an order for his arrest. Natural Resources and Environment Minister Varawut Silpa-archa shared the news of the arrest on August 15 in a social media post, reporting that a Special Operations Team brought Benedia in for questioning in Phuket. Public sector lender Punjab National Bank has become the latest one to notify customers about KYC update. In a tweet dated Wednesday, August 17, the lender said that PNB KYC needs to be done within August 31, 2022 in order to keep the accounts active. State-owned Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has floated a tender to set up 500-MW/1,000-MWh standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS) in India. The tender, the first of its kind in the country, will provide power distribution companies with storage facilities to be used on an “on-demand” basis, according to an official statement. “The tender has been issued under the standard bidding guidelines issued by the Ministry of Power in March 2022. The total capacity to be set up under the RfS (request for selection) is 1,000 MWh (500 MW x 2hrs), which will constitute two projects of 500 MWh (250 MW x 2 hrs) capacity each. The projects will be installed in the vicinity of the Fatehgarh-III Grid-Substation of the ISTS network, in Rajasthan,” the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy said in the statement. Tata Power on Thursday said its renewable energy arm has raised Rs 4,000 crore BlackRock Real Assets and Abu Dhabi-based sovereign investor Mubadala Investment Company, to create India’s most comprehensive renewable energy platform. The investment is expected to fund Tata Power Renewables’ aggressive growth plans. “The Tata Power Company Ltd and BlackRock Real Assets-led consortium, including Mubadala Investment Company, have entered into a binding agreement to invest in Tata Power’s renewable energy subsidiary, Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited,” Tata Power said in a statement. It added that BlackRock Real Assets, together with Mubadala, shall invest Rs 4,000 crore (USD 525 million) by way of equity/ compulsorily convertible instruments for a 10.53 per cent stake in Tata Power Renewables, translating to a base equity valuation of Rs 34,000 crore.
