The company has announced the release of a new Password Checkup tool, a free extension to the firm’s Chrome web browser which automatically warns users if their account details are detected to have been compromised in a cyber attack or data breach. A pop-up alert will appear alerting users if their details are no longer safe and will suggest they change their password. The tool has been designed with the help of cryptography experts at Stanford University, the firm said, adding that it had been built with “privacy at its heart” and as such will never reveal account information to Google. Ann Zaniewski Detroit Free Press Published 10:00 p.m. UTC May 22, 2018 A new website is peddling "#FreeKwame" T-shirts for $19.95 to fund an effort to get former Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick out of prison. The shirts are for sale on freekwameproject.com, which claims Kilpatrick was "over-charged and over-sentenced" in a public corruption case. The website includes inspirational blog posts that Kilpatrick apparently penned last month. "Stop trying to impress people with your style, swag, intellect, money, pride, ego, resume, outward appearance, job, career, or whatever," he wrote. "God made you in His image, and after His likeness. And He expresses Himself through you Every Day. HE loves You! Make the decision today that being You is good enough." Kilpatrick was sentenced in 2013 to 28 years in federal prison for running a host of corruption crimes, including bribery, extortion and fraud. He won't be eligible for release … [Read more...] about Website hawks T-shirts to fund Kwame Kilpatrick freedom effort
Did Poland Take Part In the Holocaust? New Claims Contradict Law That Makes It Illegal to Blame the Country
World Holocaust Poland Nazis HistoryThree decades ago, Konstanty Gebert broke the law. Constantly. He took part in anti-government protests. He wrote for underground newspapers. And he helped organize a secret university that taught subjects forbidden by the state. But since the fall of Poland’s Communist government in 1989, Gebert says, he’s tried to respect the rule of law that Poles fought so hard for. That is, until earlier this year, when Poland’s ruling far-right Law and Justice Party (PiS) made it illegal to blame the country for Nazi atrocities during World War II. Gebert felt he had to speak out. So in March, days after the law went into effect, the 64-year-old Jewish journalist made such a claim in an article for his Warsaw-based newspaper, Gazeta Wyborcza. “Many members of the Polish nation,” he wrote, “bear co-responsibility for some Nazi crimes committed by the Third Reich.”For now, Gebert remains a free man, but as a result of his … [Read more...] about Did Poland Take Part In the Holocaust?
