Democrat Freshman Rep. Joe Cunningham Attempts to Bring Booze on House Floor

· January 12, 2019 ·

A Democrat congressman is already stirring up trouble just days into his first term on Capitol Hill, attempting to bring a six-pack of beer onto the House floor on Friday afternoon. But when Rep. Joe Cunningham (D-SC) tried to bring the booze onto the House floor, he was told it was against House rules to do so and could not enter with the six-pack in hand.Cunningham intended to give the six-pack of brews, which originated from two Charleston-area breweries, to House Small Brewers Caucus co-chair Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-OR): “Making friends when you’re a freshman is hard and I thought I’d grease the skids with some Lowcountry beer,” Cunningham tweeted, noting that DeFazio received the banned brews. “Can I join the beer caucus now?” A reporter for Politico confirmed that DeFazio received his beer, tweeting a picture of the Oregon Democrat carrying the six-pack: The six pack included several South Carolina craft brews, including Dead Arm from … [Read more...] about Democrat Freshman Rep. · March 23, 2017 ·

Fourth District Appellate Court's decision that the charitable-use exemption for hospitals enacted in 2012 is unconstitutional has been reversed by the Illinois Supreme Court – with the high court electing not to decide the issue, but to have the matter further clarified at the trial court level. The Illinois Supreme Court addressed an important question yesterday in the case of Carle Foundation v. Cunningham Township. In that case, the court was asked to determine whether a hospital is exempt from paying property taxes based upon its use of the property for charitable purposes. Beginning in 2004, a township assessor terminated the charitable use exemption of four parcels of property used in connection with the operation of Carle Foundation Hospital. In 2007, Carle Foundation filed an action in circuit court asking the court to find that its property qualified for a charitable-use tax exemption. After extensive briefing on the issue, the trial court granted summary judgment relief … [Read more...] about Illinois Supreme Court Decision Regarding Not-for-Profit Hospitals: Carle Foundation vs. Cunningham Township

We recommend Vickers Cunningham in the GOP runoff for Dallas County Commissioners Court Precinct 2

· May 8, 2018 ·

One former prominent Koch supporter, Dallas County Community College District trustee Phil Ritter, withdrew his endorsement and now backs Cunningham after Koch circulated a troubling campaign letter to his supporters blaming illegal immigration for the county's shrinking middle class. For our part, we recommend Cunningham, a thoughtful and committed conservative, because his career as a businessman, lawyer and judge has left him best prepared for this job. On the bench, Cunningham earned a reputation for efficiency and was elected by his peers to serve as the county's administrative judge. He presided over more than 750 trials, including the infamous Texas Seven murder and escape cases. His judicial temperament also could serve as an antidote to what sometimes is a chaotic and contentious commissioners court.By contrast, it struck us as an unhelpful starting point when Koch, 38, promised to pull Commissioner John Wiley Price to the side "and speak to him like a … [Read more...] about We recommend Vickers Cunningham in the GOP runoff for Dallas County Commissioners Court Precinct 2
