Charles Leclerc left the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in a defiant mood after Sunday’s Canadian Grand Prix and insisted that he can overhaul Max Verstappen to win this year’s world championship. The 24-year-old Monegasque Ferrari driver is 49 points adrift of Red Bull’s world champion, who on Sunday reeled off his sixth win of the season, but still believes it is not an insurmountable deficit. Leclerc finished fifth after a storming, if frustrating, race from the back of the grid having been handed a grid penalty for taking a new power unit. “Reliability is a concern for everyone this season,” said Leclerc. “But if we can fix that, we have the performance to come back and so, from Silverstone, we will be trying to gain points back. “Forty-nine points? Two victories and it is done!” Verstappen admitted after Sunday’s tense finish that he did not have the pace to beat Carlos Sainz, in the second Ferrari, without defending hard for the last 15 laps as the Spaniard did all he could … [Read more...] about F1: Defiant Charles Leclerc Insists Ferrari Can Beat Red Bull and Max Verstappen

How Will Americans Abort Now? Can Women Use Birth Control, Pills to End Pregnancy? Path After Roe vs Wade
After almost 50 years under Roe v. Wade, the US Supreme Court on Friday removed women’s constitutional protections for abortion, a fundamental and very personal change for American lives. The landmark court decision being overturned by the court will probably result in abortion restrictions in around half of US states. The decision, unfathomable only a few years ago, was the result of decades of work by abortion opponents and was made feasible by the court’s right side that had gained strength from three judges appointed by Donald Trump. More than a month had passed since the shocking leak of a draught opinion by Justice Samuel Alito, which showed the court was ready to make this historic decision. In his final conclusion, Alito argued that the 1992 rulings in Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey, which upheld the right to an abortion, were incorrect and ought to be overturned. But what does this mean for women now in the United States? Will the lifting of these protections … [Read more...] about How Will Americans Abort Now? Where is abortion legal? In red states, women navigate a chaotic abortion landscape
ATLANTA — The impact was immediate: the moment the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Roe vs. Wade , Robin Marty, the operations director of the West Alabama Women’s Center in Tuscaloosa, told nurses, desk staff and a doctor on Friday they could no longer provide abortions. “I can’t believe they f—ing did it,” she said via phone. “You have to stop now!” Just as Roe was a landmark case for women’s rights in 1973, its reversal Friday is a resounding, if expected, ruling that will again reshape abortion in this volatile and divided nation. It left millions of women in conservative states wondering what their options are. Marty’s clinic staff had to tell more than 20 patients in their waiting room that they could continue their ultrasounds and counseling, but could not have their abortions. Then they began calling up about 100 patients, one by one, to cancel appointments and refer them to a clinic about 200 miles away in Atlanta, where the procedure is still legal. But the Atlanta … [Read more...] about Where is abortion legal? In red states, women navigate a chaotic abortion landscape
Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s Iconic Speech For Abortion Rights Resurfaces After Roe vs Wade
Late US Supreme Court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s legacy is being questioned on social media after the overturning of Roe vs Wade. Although an iconic advocate for women’s rights, Ginsburg had infamously refused to retire during Obama administration, only to pass away during Trump administration. Justice Amy Coney Barrett, the conservative replacement for Ginsburg appointed by Trump, was one of the six justices who ruled in favour of overturning Roe vs Wade. Even without her, the outcome likely would have been the same, only by a smaller margin. Now, Ginsburg’s 1993 speech advocating for abortion rights has surfaced on Twitter. “This is something central to a woman’s life, to her dignity… When government controls that decision for her, she’s being treated as less than a fully adult human,” Ginsburg can be heard saying during her Supreme Court confirmation hearing, in a video shared by The Recount. (Credit: @JeremySWallace) NEW You can now listen to Fox News articles! Texas is unlikely to adopt the red flag law provisions included in bipartisan gun control legislation set to advance in the U.S. Senate Thursday even if the bill fast-tracked after the Uvalde massacre does pass, according to reports. The current draft of the 80-page Bipartisan Safer Communities Act will make $750 million in federal funding available to help states administer a red flag law if they have or pass one – though states without them could also qualify for the money by adopting other policies unrelated to guns. Giuliani Sounds Like He’s Ready to Put His Kid on Mount Rushmore
In a virtual press conference Thursday attended by fewer than 30 people—including the PR consultants hosting the event—former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani compared his son, who is hoping to be elected New York’s GOP candidate for governor next week, to Donald Trump, Teddy Roosevelt, Ronald Reagan, and…himself. Giuliani, who appeared to encounter brief technical issues when logging onto the sparsely populated Zoom meeting, described Andrew , 36, as “tough as nails,” boasting that his boy had been endorsed by Trump cronies and convicted felon Mike Flynn and Steve Bannon, who was charged with felony fraud in 2021 but pardoned by Trump hours before the ex-president left office. However, Giuliani also said that Trump’s endorsement could potentially be detrimental to Andrew’s already slim chances, claiming that Trump has withheld his blessing out of his own benevolence. In rambling remarks that focused primarily on his own accomplishments running New York City, Giuliani took a … [Read more...] about Giuliani Sounds Like He’s Ready to Put His Kid on Mount Rushmore
Dating Has Always Been Like Work
Love, it turns out, has always been a lot of work. While every generation will lament anew the fact that finding love is hard, history seems to indicate that this particular social ritual never gets any easier or less exciting. In Labor of Love , a new book documenting the history of dating in America, Moira Weigel, a Ph.D. candidate in comparative literature at Yale University, confirms this lament: Since dating was “invented,” it has always been an activity that required a lot of effort. As part of her research, Weigel read dating-advice books from the 1800s and hundreds of articles on dating from teen and women’s magazines over the years, and she found two common themes: First, there is usually an older part of the population that perceives dating to be “dying,” or, at least, as not being done “appropriately.” Second, Weigel found that the way people date has almost always been tied to the market forces of their era. I recently spoke with Weigel about her book, and a lightly … [Read more...] about Dating Has Always Been Like Work
Fossil fuel divestment bill dies in California Legislature — and a Democrat killed it
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 2 Climate activists and environmental groups were seething Wednesday after a Democratic Assembly member killed a measure that would have required the state’s pension systems — two of the country’s largest — to divest from fossil fuels in the next decade. Senate Bill 1173, written by Sens. Lena Gonzalez (D-Long Beach) and Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco), would have ordered the California Public Employees’ Retirement System and the California State Teachers’ Retirement System to divest from the fossil fuel industry by 2030. CalPERS and CalSTRS invest a combined total of about $9 billion in fossil fuel companies. The bill was scheduled to be heard by the Assembly Committee on Public Employment and Retirement on Wednesday. But the day before the hearing, Assembly Member Jim Cooper (D-Elk Grove), the committee chair, removed it from the committee’s agenda. “At a time when there is so much … [Read more...] about Fossil fuel divestment bill dies in California Legislature — and a Democrat killed it
