While producers of Vietnamese-made TV shows consider it is already a success if their programs do not incur any losses, shows made under formats from other countries, especially Thailand, continue to outplay their local rivals in the country. Vietnam’s economy set to thrive with new dynamics Vietnam reaped notable achievements in 2018, with economic growth hitting a record high of 7.08%, putting Vietnam on the list of Asia’s fastest-growing economies. New economic dynamics are expected to drive Vietnam forward in 2019 and help it achieve its 5-year plan targets by 2020. Rice exports set to pick up in Q1 2019 Rice exports are predicted to thrive during the first quarter of 2019 as regular importers are giving positive signs, according to a Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development source. Rice exports to regular importers such as the Philippines and Indonesia will soar in the first quarter of 2019 as both have recently been hit by natural disasters. The Agro Processing and Market Development Authority made the prediction at a press conference on January 22. The conference briefed expectations of farm produce exports during 2019, reported the news outlet Vietnam Economic Times. The authority stated rice exports to regular importers such as the Philippines and Indonesia will soar in the first quarter of 2019 as both have recently been hit by natural disasters. Japanese personnel provider enters Vietnamese market Representative from Sunwell Solutions Vietnam Yoshioka Reito (R) A representative from Japan’s Sunwell Solutions JSC said on January 23 that its Vietnamese office officially became operational earlier this month. Sunwell Solutions, with eight years experience in providing human resources solutions, aims to increase opportunities for outstanding Vietnamese engineers working at Japanese firms and develop relations between Japanese employers and Vietnamese employees. Vietnam’s rice exports hit 5.2 million tonnes in ten months Vietnam shipped abroad 264,000 tonnes of rice in October this year for 136 million USD, pushing the total figures so far this year to 5.2 million tonnes worth 2.6 billion USD, up 1.7 and 14.1 percent year-on-year. China remained the leading importer of Vietnamese rice with a growth rate of 24 percent. Strong rises were also seen in many other markets, such as Indonesia, Iraq, the Philippines, and Malaysia. Average rice prices in the first nine months of 2018 reached 503 USD per tonne, up 13.7 percent year-on-year. The highest price was recorded for Jasmine rice with 575 USD per tonne, followed by Japonica with 526 USD per tonne. The export of medium- and high-quality rice increased, while that of low quality types reduced, now accounting for just 2 percent of the total export volume.
