WASHINGTON, D.C. — Roger Stone had interrupted Julie Pace’s day. Three hours earlier, federal agents arrested Stone in Florida. At about the same time Stone was posing for mugshots, Pace was getting her 9-month-old son, Will, ready for the day. But then the news alert popped on her screen, and her team of reporters and editors from the Associated Press started calling. Pace, a Buffalo native, is one of the most influential journalists in Washington, and one of the most scrutinized. The 37-year-old Amherst High School graduate is the Washington bureau chief for the Associated Press. That puts her in charge of about 100 journalists and staff. It also includes Trump-era investigations such as the one that snared Stone, the political operative who has Richard Nixon’s face tattooed on his back. The longtime Trump ally was charged by Special Counsel Robert Mueller with lying to Congress, witness tampering, and obstruction. There was a time – meaning before Donald … [Read more...] about The AP’s Julie Pace: ‘Washington is in her DNA,’ but so is Amherst
July 9 national day
A mother and her 9-year-old daughter were separated for 36 hours after the child fell into U.S. Customs and Border Protection custody because agents at the border didn’t believe she was who she claimed to be, a mother says. Thelma Galaxia said her friend, Michelle Cardenas, was driving each of their two children from Tijuana, where they live, to their schools in San Ysidro Monday morning, as they do nearly every day. Galexia's 9-year-old daughter, Julia Isabel Amparo Medina, attends fourth grade at Nicoloff Elementary School and her 14-year-old son, Oscar Amparo Medina, attends ninth grade at San Ysidro High School. Both are passport-holding U.S. citizens. When they got in line at the border at 4 a.m. Monday, traffic was moving slow. Cardenas told the four children to walk across the border instead. She was going to call them an Uber so they could make it to school on time. President Donald Trump formally vetoed a congressional resolution that revoked his national … [Read more...] about CBP Detains US Citizen, 9, Accuses Her of Lying About Identity, Mother Says
By Patrick May | [email protected] | Bay Area News Group PUBLISHED: January 23, 2019 at 2:45 pm | UPDATED: January 24, 2019 at 5:19 am National Pie Day has arrived! Eat up and enjoy this national celebration, by some accounts created out of thin air back in the mid-1970s by a Colorado nuclear engineer with probably too much free time on his hands. Apparently, at least according to Wikipedia, it’s quite easy to start a National Day: the engineer, Charlie Papazian, simply declared his own birthday, Jan. 23, to be National Pie Day. The next step in sealing the deal is to have a group or an industry or, better yet, a group called the American Pie Council to endorse your pie day, which is what happened with Papazian’s pie thing in 1986. Before you know it, your national day is really a thing, a moment to be celebrated at the same time each year by people who have nothing else to do with their lives as well as people who work for some council whose job it is … [Read more...] about It’s National (fill in the blank) Day? President Trump, who agreed on Tuesday to dissolve his private foundation under pressure from the New York State attorney general, on Wednesday took to Twitter to blame Democrats for the organization’s problems.“The Trump Foundation has done great work and given away lots of money, both mine and others, to great charities over the years — with me taking NO fees, rent, salaries etc,” Trump tweeted on Wednesday. “Now, as usual, I am getting slammed by Cuomo and the Dems in a long running civil lawsuit started by sleazebag AG Eric Schneiderman, who has since resigned over horrific women abuse, when I wanted to close the Foundation so as not to be in conflict with politics.”“Shady Eric was head of New Yorkers for Clinton, and refused to even look at the corrupt Clinton Foundation,” the president continued.“In any event, it goes on and on & the new AG, who is now being replaced by yet another AG (who openly campaigned on a GET TRUMP … [Read more...] about President Trump defends ‘great work’ of Trump Foundation, a day after closing it
