One Republican lawmaker pledged on Saturday to boycott President Joe Biden 's upcoming State of the Union address. Biden is slated to begin his speech on Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET and will address Congress for the first time since Republicans won control of the House of Representatives during the midterm elections last November. He plans to use his speech to emphasize bipartisan cooperation, according to The New York Times. However, his remarks will likely be met with criticism from conservatives. Representative Mary Miller, of Illinois, said she will not attend the annual address in an interview with conservative news outlet Breitbart over the weekend. She pointed to what she called Biden's "lies" about a number of issues, including energy prices and immigration, as to why she is boycotting. "I will not be attending," she told Breitbart. "I do not plan to show up to and listen to him continue to lie." Instead, Miller plans to share her tickets with a colonel who retired … [Read more...] about One Republican pledges to boycott Biden’s State of the Union entirely

The Democratic Party’s Tortured Relationship With Corporate PAC Money
When progressive Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) was briefly entertaining a run for the White House in early 2019, he promised that if he took the plunge, his campaign would reject corporate PAC money. But Brown—who since declining to seek the presidency has accepted more than $1 million in corporate PAC donations—will not make that same promise as he gears up for what’s sure to be a contentious re-election fight in 2024. “Anyone who knows Sherrod knows he’s one of the nation’s strongest leaders in taking on big corporations on behalf of Ohio workers—that’s one of the reasons Ohioans continue to elect him to the U.S. Senate and why he will win this race in 2024,” Brown campaign manager Rachel Petri said in a statement to The Daily Beast. “We are proud of the grassroots coalition he’s built and have no doubt it will show up to support him again as we gear up for next year.” Petri did not reply when asked why Brown, who accepted more than $7 million in corporate PAC money … [Read more...] about The Democratic Party’s Tortured Relationship With Corporate PAC Money
ASK IRA: Will Heat again turn trade focus to previous ones that got away?
Q: Hello, Ira. With Kyrie Irving now joining the Mavs, it is likely Kevin Durant will request a trade. Being that Kevin is locked into his current contract through the 2025-2026 season, the Nets will want a huge haul including multiple first-round picks, many more than we have to offer. I’m sure the Heat decision makers know this, and are instead focused on realistic deals that can make this current Heat team better, or will they be like Captain Ahab and crew determined to get their whale? – Carlos, West Park. A: I have been told that if the Heat do not move Kyle Lowry at Thursday’s NBA trading deadline that the Heat very much will return to the mindset of an offseason run at Kevin Durant or Bradley Beal, should either express a desire to move on. For Durant gets to see if this Brooklyn remix can work. But I do agree that it is almost as if the Heat keep kicking the can down the road with visions of Durant or Beal, as the games and seasons tick along with nothing but mediocrity in … [Read more...] about ASK IRA: Will Heat again turn trade focus to previous ones that got away?

Who will replace Tom Brady at Buccaneers? Garoppolo, Jones among contenders
Tom Brady is celebrating a job well done in the NFL after 23 seasons and is receiving plaudits for a record-breaking career, but he's left the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a hole in their offense and the uncomfortable realization that they need a new quarterback. Brady's retirement comes at a time when a number of teams are thinking of a QB change, which means players in that position may become available, although some have had a frustrating time lately and may be on a downward curve in their career. While Brady was in his twilight years, he was considered the GOAT (greatest of all time), which meant he could still deliver a Super Bowl to the Bucs. There isn't much in the bank for the Bucs now. Backup Blaine Gabbert is unsigned for 2023, and second-round draft pick Kyle Trask is still seen as a developmental prospect. So a new QB coming in is pretty much the only option. Free agency or the NFL draft seems to be the route for the Bucs, and with Brady's salary off the books, … [Read more...] about Who will replace Tom Brady at Buccaneers? ‘AGT: All-Stars’: Who won last spot in the finals? Top 11 acts confirmed
The top 11 acts of the inaugural season of America's Got Talent: All-Stars , also stylized as AGT: All-Stars , have been confirmed following the final auditions episode. On Monday February 6, show host Terry Crews confirmed to the audience that only one act from the evening would be securing a spot in the finals, whereas in previous weeks there had been two spots awarded. The reason for there only being one is that each week has seen a Golden Buzzer being given out, plus a spot voted for by the AGT "superfans" in the audience. The series was filmed in the summer of 2022, so there is no public vote. Judges Heidi Klum, Simon Cowell and Howie Mandel , as well as host Crews, had all already given out their Golden Buzzer and last week the foursome gave out the one and only Group Golden Buzzer to Tom Ball , meaning there were no more left for Monday's episode. Over the past six week 50 acts from Got Talent franchises around the world have returned to the stage to … [Read more...] about ‘AGT: All-Stars’: Who won last spot in the finals? Top 11 acts confirmed
