The Simpsons may have predicted the violence that unfolded in US Capitol on Wednesday. Violence erupted after current US President Donald Trump’s supporters invaded the US Capitolto disrupt the certification by Congress of Democrat Joe Biden’s election victory. A dusk-to-dawn curfew has been declared by Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser, who asked for the assistance of the National Guard to help reestablish order in the nation’s capital. Several Republicans as well as White House staff are resigning in wake of the violence, which world leaders have condemned, saying it is an attack on democracy. Farmers in Talavadi hills claim that fertilizers are not available with the six Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS) for the last three months as they fear that major cultivation activities, that are all set to begin during the southwest monsoon in June, would affect if the same situation prevails. There are 169 PACS in the district of which six are located in Talavadi, Bainapuram, Hasanur, Arulvadi, Doddapuram and Panahalli in Talavadi hills. Fertilizers are procured from private companies by the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Marketing Federation Limited (TANFED) and the companies deliver fertilizers at Erode Railway Junction from where it is transported in lorries to the godowns in Erode and Gobichettipalayam and distributed to societies across the district. Crops such as potato, cabbage, onion, turmeric, tomato and banana would be widely cultivated during the monsoon for which di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) is applied. The Water Resources Department (WRD) plans to repair the damaged portions of feeder canal that carries water from Poondi to Red Hills reservoir, which are the city’s primary drinking water sources. This is for the first time in many years that a major improvement work is proposed to be taken up in the canal. This is one of the five such projects being taken up in Chennai region at a cost of ₹51 crore with assistance from the NABARD (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development). The 21.5-km-long feeder canal branches out at Sirukadal village from the 10.3 km point of the link canal that originates from Poondi reservoir. While the initial portion of the feeder canal has concrete lining, the stretch between 14.2 km near Morai and 21.5 km near Red Hills is designed as an earthen channel. The unlined channel carries surplus water from waterbodies such as Koilpadagai, Vellanoor and Panayanthangal. The Annamayya district administration has a special action plan to develop the Horsley Hills near Madanapalle into a vibrant tourist attraction, and serve the visitors with modern facilities, which included a five-star hotel, mineral water plants, botanical and theme parks, and pleasant accommodation. District Collector P.S Gireesha, who conducted inspections at the hill station along with the tourism and forest department officials, said that top priority was being accorded to construct the 5-star-hotel at the earliest, for which the required land had been already acquired. He observed that the prominent hill station remained a preferred destination to a cross section of tourists, including judges and VIPs. Nashik : A 48-year-old woman from the city was seriously injured after she fell off a cliff while clicking a selfie at famous hill station Saputara in Dang district of neighbouring Gujarat, police said on Tuesday. The incident occurred on Monday when Sushma Pagare was enjoying the view from famous "Sunrise Point" with her family members. "She lost her balance while clicking a selfie apparently due to strong winds," a police official said, adding that the woman survived miraculously as her fall was arrested by bushes down the slope. Pagare was rescued by police with the help of local people and taken to Saputara primary health centre.
