Thanks to the free market, Sony Pictures has finally been forced to admit its all-female Ghostbusters remake/reboot was a catastrophe, and this admission arrives in the starkest way possible: Sony announced it has been forced to once again reboot Ghostbusters, and this reboot will have nothing to do with the studio’s disastrous 2016 attempt to use its beloved Ghostbusters franchise as a social justice statement. According to the Hollywood Reporter, director Jason Reitman (son of original director Ivan Reitman) has been given the green light to bring to life a script he co-wrote, and as of now, the studio is looking for a summer 2020 release date. From the sounds of it, Sony has decided to pretend 2016’s creative and financial catastrophe never happened. This new chapter will be “the next chapter in the original story [that] continues the narrative of the 1980s classic.” Officially, then it is not a reboot, but it actually kind of is. Don’t Buy Establishment Media’s Sudden Concern for ‘Human Rights’ in North Korea
The establishment media have one simple principle when it comes to dictators and human rights: If the dictator makes Republicans look bad (or Democrats look good), the media do not give a damn about human rights. North Korea is not only the most recent example, it is one of the most striking. Oh, sure the other examples of dictators the media love are endless — Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez, Hassan Rouhani, Bashar al-Assad, Mohamed Morsi, Robert Mugabe, Saddam Hussein, and the Soviet Union — but when you look at today’s media narrative about human rights in North Korea, never let yourself forget that it was only four months ago — a mere 16 weeks — when the media dropped its collective pants and bent over for Kim. Never forget that Obama did more to set back the cause of human rights (especially in Iran Libya, Egypt) and more to spread tyranny (ISIS) than any president in modern history, and the media still love them some Barry.Remember the media’s … [Read more...] about Don’t Buy Establishment Media’s Sudden Concern for ‘Human Rights’ in North Korea
State senator wins Republican race for Public Service Commission spot
LINCOLN — Name recognition won out Tuesday in the Republican primary race for the Nebraska Public Service Commission seat for southeast Nebraska’s District 1. State Sen. Dan Watermeier of Syracuse, who has served six years in the Legislature, was easily nominated over former Cass County Board member Ron Nolte of Plattsmouth and Scott Smathers of Lincoln, who heads a state sportsmen’s group.Smathers had accused Watermeier of being a “liberal” and of supporting a tax increase by sponsoring a bill to collect taxes on sales over the Internet. But Smathers, who loaned his campaign $33,000, ran third behind Nolte, who spent a fraction of that.Democrats picked Christa Yoakum of Lincoln, who outdistanced John Atkeison, also of Lincoln. … [Read more...] about State senator wins Republican race for Public Service Commission spot
Lena Dunham, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler Sell Same Number of Books First Week
What are the odds that Tina Fey, Lena Dunham, and Amy Poehler would all sell the exact same number of books during their debut weeks? Math has never been by strong suit, but the number has to be astronomical. Nonetheless, both Fey and Dunham sold 38,000 copies. Poehler sold 37,000. Even New York Magazine found the coincidence worthy of note:Did the Same 38,000 Women Buy These Books? The market for readers interested in the lives of funny, famous women in television has been defined and it’s 38,000. That’s the number of copies Tina Fey sold of her memoir Bossypants during its first week, echoed exactly by Lena Dunham’s Not That Kind of Girl, and followed by Amy Poehler’s Yes Please at 37,000. For some context, Bill O’Reilly’s non-fiction “Killing Patton” moved 169,000 first-week copies. And despite a seeming slow start, Fey’s “Bossypants” went on to eventually sell 2.5 million copies. Several vie for open seat on Nebraska Public Service Commission
LINCOLN — For the first time in 30 years, there’s an open seat on the Nebraska Public Service Commission to represent southeast Nebraska. The opening, caused by the pending retirement of longtime Commissioner Frank Landis, has drawn five candidates into the race for a $75,000-a-year seat on a normally low-profile board that regulates several industries, including telecommunications, railroads, taxis and grain warehousing. But the commission found itself in the national spotlight last fall when the five-member panel, on a split vote, approved a route for the Keystone XL pipeline across Nebraska. The pipeline was one of the main issues dividing the three Republicans and two Democrats in District 1, which covers eight counties in southeast Nebraska, including the cities of Lincoln, Beatrice and Nebraska City. One candidate from each party will advance from the May 15 primary to the general election. At least one candidate has criticized another, State Sen. Dan Watermeier of … [Read more...] about Several vie for open seat on Nebraska Public Service Commission
