President Donald Trump may be angry about raids on the office and hotel room of his personal attorney, but Special Counsel Robert Mueller must be allowed to do his job, Sen. John Kennedy said Tuesday. "The president's entitled to his opinion," the Louisiana Republican told CNN's "New Day" co-host Chris Cuomo, while commenting about Trump's calling Mueller's investigation and the raids a "witch hunt." "The truth is, none of us know. We have a rule of law, part of which is legal procedure. As best as I can tell, that procedure has been followed. Everything else, frankly, is just speculation." Meanwhile, since a special counsel has been appointed, he must be allowed to his job and then report the facts to the American people, the senator said. "I know there have been some leaks from the law enforcement authorities. Frankly, I wish that wouldn't happen, but we just got to let this play out," said Kennedy. "If somebody did something wrong, they should be held accountable. Let the chips fall … [Read more...] about Sen. John Kennedy: Trump Entitled to Opinion; Probe Must Go On

Sen. John Kennedy: Trump Should Have Invited Dems to Macron Dinner
President Donald Trump should have invited Democrats and the media to the state dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron, Republican Sen. John Kennedy told CNN's "New Day" on Tuesday. Although he conceded that Trump has the right to choose his own management style, the Louisiana senator said, "I think it would have sent a better message, just my opinion, if we included a cross-section of Congress. You can't include everybody, but that's Democrats, independents and Republicans." Kennedy, who was one of four congressmen invited to the state dinner, also said that a more significant media presence at the event would have helped highlight the gratitude France deserves from the U.S. for helping in the attack on Syria. "It's about learning from President Macron and thanking him," Kennedy said. "I want to thank him for standing with us in Syria. I want to thank him, the French people through the president, for selling us Louisiana to the United States in 1803." For state dinners, the … [Read more...] about Sen. John Kennedy: Big Banks Trampling on Second Amendment
Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., argued in a new opinion piece that big banks are threatening to violate Americans' Second Amendment rights. Writing for Fox News, Kennedy pointed out that both Bank of America and Citigroup now have policies that place restrictions on what their business banking clients can sell and manufacture when it comes to firearms. "Grocery stores might decide not to sell liquor or lottery tickets, even though it's legal for people of a certain age to buy them. Grocery stores might ask customers to leave their firearms at home," Kennedy wrote. "But banks are not grocery stores. A grocery store doesn't need a taxpayer-funded government charter to operate, a taxpayer-funded government corporation (the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation) to insure its deposits, or a taxpayer-funded government bank to pay it interest. Banks do." Kennedy noted that banks like these two are tagged by the federal government as too big to fail, meaning they can be bailed out by American … [Read more...] about John Kennedy: Big Banks Trampling on Second Amendment
Sen. John Kennedy: I Believe Kavanaugh, But Want to Hear Ford
Sen. John Kennedy said after Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh's first three days of testimony, he would proudly vote to confirm him, but on Wednesday he could change his mind after he hears testimony expected Thursday from Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, who accuses the federal judge of sexually assaulting her while they were in high school. "That's the purpose of the hearing," the Louisiana Republican told MSNBC's "Morning Joe." "Now, I believe Judge Kavanaugh; I've spoken directly to Judge Kavanaugh, I've asked him point-blank. He is resolute, he's determined." However, Kennedy said he wants to hear Ford's statement and allow her the respect and due process that she deserves. "I want to treat Dr. Ford as if she were my daughter, but I want to treat Judge Kavanaugh as if he were my son here." Kennedy said the discussion may be an analysis of memory, as the alleged events happened a long time ago, in the early 1980s. "My mind is selective when I think back 30 or 40 years ago," he said. … [Read more...] about Sen. John Kennedy: I Believe Kavanaugh, But Want to Hear Ford
Sen. John Kennedy: Time to Tone Down Rhetoric on Both Sides
Political rhetoric should be toned down on both sides after suspicious packages containing pipe bombs were addressed several liberal figures this week, Sen. John Kennedy said Thursday. "I'm sorry for what happened to the Clintons and the Obamas, and Mr. George Soros, and now apparently Vice President (Joe) Biden," the Louisiana Republican told Fox News' "America's Newsroom." "I am sorry for America. We shouldn't have to go through this." At the same time, political rhetoric has been "hot on both sides," said Kennedy. "Probably, we all ought to dial it down a notch. When you are civil, it doesn't mean you agree with your colleagues. It means you respect them, and I'm just sorry this happened. I do think we will catch this person." He added that there are people, such as former CIA Director John Brennan, whose name was on a package sent to CNN, who want to blame the political climate, but there is plenty of blame to go around. "A month ago, Secretary (Hillary) Clinton said we … [Read more...] about Sen. John Kennedy: Time to Tone Down Rhetoric on Both Sides
