Britney Spears’ ex ordered to trial on stalking charge

June 27, 2022 by www.sfchronicle.com

VENTURA, Calif. (AP) — A California judge found Monday that there is enough evidence against a man once briefly married to Britney Spears who showed up uninvited at the pop star's wedding to go to trial on a felony stalking charge. After a two-hour preliminary hearing, Ventura County Judge David Worley ruled that 40-year-old Jason Allen Alexander should be held to answer on the charge, along with misdemeanor counts of trespassing, vandalism and battery, court records showed. Not guilty pleas to all the charges were entered by an attorney for Alexander, who did not attend and remains jailed. Spears married longtime boyfriend Sam Asghari at her home in Thousand Oaks, California, on June 9, in front of several dozen guests including Selena Gomez, Drew Barrymore, Paris Hilton and Madonna. Alexander, a childhood friend of Spears to whom she was married for less than three days in 2004, appeared uninvited at the house before the ceremony, livestreaming his raid on Instagram. … [Read more...] about Britney Spears’ ex ordered to trial on stalking charge

Kirk & Kirk – founded by husband and wife duo Jason and Karen Kirk 30 years ago – said it is aiming to make its first “foray into retail” this autumn. The move will see it enter the UK retail market directly, building on its current tie-up with 100 independent optical retailers in Britain and more than a further 300 around the world. Mr Kirk told the PA news agency: “We’re opening our first pop-up store, our first foray into retail, in September, in Shoreditch. Buckingham Palace accused of ‘trying to bury’ inquiry into Meghan Markle bullying claims

April 16, 2022 by www.mirror.co.uk

Buckingham Palace is facing accusations that it has buried an inquiry into bullying allegations made about the Duchess of Sussex . In the year since the inquiry was launched, just four or five members of the Sussexes' 25-person team have been spoken to, the Daily Mail has reported. Those who have been asked to provide evidence have reportedly not heard anything since last summer. No findings from the probe have been published by the Palace and it is unclear when they will be brought to light. One source told the Daily Mail : "This should have been an opportunity to do the right thing. Now it looks like they're going to do nothing instead. The claims about Meghan Markle were first published last year ( Image: Humphrey Nemar) "It has been a very difficult situation for all involved, but the Palace is a very powerful institution and there clearly seems to be a cultural problem of not handling bullying, particularly when you consider some of the allegations about … [Read more...] about Buckingham Palace accused of ‘trying to bury’ inquiry into Meghan Markle bullying claims

Dyslexia And The New Science Of Reading

January 30, 2000 by www.newsweek.com

The first thing Kathryn Nicholas will tell you about her 11-year-old son Jason is that he's a bright, curious kid who can build elaborate machines out of Legos and remember the code names and payloads of bombers. "He has a phenomenal desire to see how things work," she says proudly. But reading, for Jason, was a train wreck. In first grade he was assigned to special-education classes with three mildly retarded children. Two years later, despite extra help, he still couldn't decipher a sentence, and his mother was worried that he would soon become so discouraged that he would give up trying. Then she heard about Virginia Wise Berninger, an educational psychologist at the University of Washington who studies dyslexia, a disorder that makes learning to read extremely difficult. As part of her ongoing research, Berninger tested Jason and then invited him to a summer program for dyslexic boys. The kids didn't just play letter games. They did science experiments, studied biodiversity, met … [Read more...] about Dyslexia And The New Science Of Reading

Pro-life conservatives claim to care about Black lives. They don’t | Opinion

June 27, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

The Supreme Court 's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade has sent shockwaves through the nation, exposing a deep cultural, religious, and political divide. The Left is mobilizing to fight for reproductive rights across the nation, while restrictions to abortion are spreading across the nation in Republican-led states. One of the arguments that the Right has taken to making in favor of restricting abortion is to claim that they are doing so on behalf of Black lives. Conservative Supreme Court Justice Sam Alito wrote in his leaked draft opinion that some abortion supporters have been "motivated by a desire to suppress the size of the African American population." Former Governor Phil Bryant of Mississippi once lamented the lack of outrage "at about 20 million African American children that have been aborted." And Oklahoma GOP Senate candidate T.W. Shannon, who is Black and Native American, called Planned Parenthood's founder a "vile racist." "Four hundred thousand Black babies … [Read more...] about Pro-life conservatives claim to care about Black lives. They don’t | Opinion

Internet in hysterics after homeowner finds fake skeleton in wall with note

June 28, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

From creepy photographs in hidden rooms to pentagrams carved into the floorboards, homeowners are often surprised by what previous residents leave behind. At least the former tenants of TikToker @kzwpg's home in Winnipeg, Canada had a good sense of humor. In a clip posted on June 18, @kzwpg's—real-name Kaleigh—shared the plastic skeleton she discovered during a home renovation, which users described as "hilarious." In the video, the skull can be seen watching through a gap in the wall. Kaleigh's dad then removes the panel to reveal the skeleton's torso and legs, dressed top-to-toe in denim. "There's a note," says Kaleigh's mom. "Oh my God, that's hilarious." Her dad removes the note from the skeleton's pocket, which reads: "Boo! Ha ha, did I scare you? Jason Lane, 2013." "I've lived here for 6 years and this skeleton has been watching me from behind the bathroom mirror this whole time," Kaleigh wrote alongside the post. TikTok users loved the prank, with the post … [Read more...] about Internet in hysterics after homeowner finds fake skeleton in wall with note
