BRITAIN is piling the pressure on Saudi Arabia after the regime is widely suspected of ordering the brutal murder of reporter Jamal Khashoggi in its own embassy in Turkey. Foreign secretary Jeremy Hunt and Saudi King Salman were pictured smiling cautiously at one another yesterday. The minister, who flew to capital Riyadh for the meeting, is also due to speak with the country’s powerful Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman about the killing of the critical journalist. Speaking before the tricky diplomatic trip, Mr Hunt said: “We encourage the Saudi authorities to cooperate fully with the Turkish investigation into his death, so that we deliver justice for his family and the watching world.” He also plans to visit the United Arab Emirates in a bid to try to broker a ceasefire in war-torn Yemen during his visit to the region. JOURNALIST Jamal Khashoggi vanished after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2, 2018. It was weeks before the Kingdom admitted to murdering the 59-year-old Washington Post columnist. Here's what we know about his death. Who was Jamal Khashoggi? Jamal Khashoggi was a Saudi Arabian journalist, columnist, author and former editor-in-chief of Al Arab news. He was born in Madinah, on October 13, 1958. Jamal earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Indiana State University in 1982 and 25 years later, started work as a columnist for the Washington Post. He was engaged to marry Hatice Cengiz, 36. Khashoggi is the grandson of Muhammad Khashsoggi, who married the personal physician to King Abdulaziz Al Saud, the founder of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. JEREMY HUNT will today demand Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman cooperate with the investigation into “brutal murder” of Jamal Khashoggi. In a whistlestop 24 hour trip to Saudi Arabia, the Foreign Secretary will urge the kingdom to help the world “deliver justice for his family” for the journalist’s family. He will separately meet with King Salman to lobby for an end to the “incalculable” bloodshed in Yemen. Jeremy Hunt will today confront the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia over the "brutal" murder of Jamal Khashoggi during a visit to the Gulf state as he expresses his "horror and outrage". The Foreign Secretary will become the first minister to meet with Mohammed bin Salman since Mr Khashoggi, a Washington Post journalist, was allegedly tortured and executed in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul last month. Mr Hunt will fly to the Kingdom today to meet with King Salman and the Crown Prince, where he will demand that they do more to cooperate with the Turkish authorities attempting to establish how he was killed. World The head of investigations at Turkish newspaper Daily Sabah claims audio recordings inside Istanbul’s Saudi consulate showed that Jamal Khashoggi was suffocated with a plastic bag.
