China spy balloon fiasco exposed Biden’s astonishing weakness and Xi will drive a truck through it

February 5, 2023 by www.foxnews.com

close Video Mike Pompeo: This was a 'trial balloon' to see how the US would respond Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo reacts to President Biden's handling of a Chinese surveillance balloon traveling across the United States and Russia's war on Ukraine on 'Sunday Night in America.' NEW You can now listen to Fox News articles! One of President Ronald Reagan’s greatest lessons to the world was that showing clear strength and strong resolve results in peace. In contrast, weakness, appeasement, and ambiguity can lead to war.  And yet, America’s foreign policy establishment, embodied by the Biden administration, embraces weakness. This was on full display last week when the Chinese spy balloon flew over our airspace. I fear Biden’s response will only continue to invite Chinese aggression. Yes, we may have finally shot down the balloon, but not before it literally flew coast-to-coast over the entire United States and outrage over … [Read more...] about China spy balloon fiasco exposed Biden’s astonishing weakness and Xi will drive a truck through it

Trump Mulls Options on ZTE as Congress Tries to Force Tough Penalty

May 24, 2018 by www.nytimes.com

The Trump administration, over the objections of lawmakers, is continuing to try to soften its punishment of ZTE, the Chinese telecommunications firm that has emerged as a key sticking point in trade negotiations between China and the United States. The company is on the verge of shutting down after the United States banned it from buying American components and has become a bargaining chip between President Trump and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, as the two leaders work to resolve a brewing trade war. Mr. Xi asked Mr. Trump to revisit the ZTE decision because thousands of Chinese jobs could be lost if the company is shuttered. On Thursday, Wilbur Ross, the commerce secretary, said the administration was considering placing an American compliance team inside ZTE to ensure that the company was meeting its requirements and not violating sanctions. The company was punished for violating United States sanctions against Iran and North Korea and then lying about it. “We’re … [Read more...] about Trump Mulls Options on ZTE as Congress Tries to Force Tough Penalty

China doubles down on its spy balloon story by firing national weather service chief

February 5, 2023 by www.foxnews.com

close Video China is ‘very deliberate’ in its national security plans: Lt. Gen. Richard Newton Former Minot Air Force base Commander and Retired Lt. Gen. Richard Newton says China flying a balloon over U.S. military bases is a ‘significant’ move as part of their bigger picture. China fired the chief of its national weather service Saturday in a move widely seen as an effort to substantiate its claims that the balloon floating across the U.S. this weekend was an off-course weather craft. Beijing announced Zhuang Guotai's firing Saturday, hours before the U.S. shot down the craft off the coast of South Carolina. The U.S. is working to recover the balloon for inspection, but Beijing has argued that it was innocuous and its presence in U.S. airspace was an accident. "The Chinese side has, after verification, repeatedly informed the U.S. side of the civilian nature of the airship and conveyed that its entry into the U.S. due to force majeure … [Read more...] about China doubles down on its spy balloon story by firing national weather service chief

Biden only mentioned China 3 times in 2022 State of the Union address

February 5, 2023 by www.foxnews.com

close Video Biden's State of the Union draws worst ratings in 30 years Fox News contributor Lara Trump says Americans are increasingly frustrated with Biden's performance as president. All eyes are on China and President Biden’s handling of the spy balloon from the Communist state that was shot down off the coast of South Carolina ahead of his State of the Union speech Tuesday. Republicans are voicing concerns that the administration has ignored or downplayed the growing threat of the Chinese Communist Party after a Chinese surveillance balloon was allowed to drift across the continental U.S. for several days before being taken down by the U.S. military. The president only mentioned China three times during his last address on March 1, arguing that his Bipartisan Infrastructure Law "put us on a path to win the economic competition of the 21st century that we face with the rest of the world, particularly China." Biden Administration Scrambles to Rewrite China Portion of SOTU

February 5, 2023 by www.breitbart.com

President Joe Biden and his speechwriters will “likely rewrite” the China portion of his State of the Union speech set for Tuesday night, following the Chinese spy balloon being shot down this past week after days of “ violating ” United States airspace. As Biden’s speechwriters try to help the president emphasize a series of accomplishments during the State of the Union speech this week, Axios noted that the president will try to be “nimble” and would have to “likely rewrite” his portion on China, while the administration is also navigating Beijing’s threat of repercussions for downing the spy balloon. China will be an uninvited guest at President Biden’s State of the Union address Tuesday night, as he takes credit for a resilient economy, celebrates record-low unemployment, and previews a broader domestic agenda. https://t.co/UX7Jasr66W — Axios (@axios) February 5, 2023 American civilians first discovered the spy balloon floating over their homes on Thursday. … [Read more...] about Biden Administration Scrambles to Rewrite China Portion of SOTU

GORDON CHANG: Kevin McCarthy Squares Up Against The ‘World’s Largest Bully’ — China

February 5, 2023 by dailycaller.com

The People’s Liberation Army flew 34 aircraft near Taiwan on Tuesday and Wednesday. Twenty of them crossed the “median line,” the de facto border running down the Taiwan Strait between China and Taiwan. The Chinese military also sent nine vessels near Taiwan, the island republic that Beijing claims as its own. (RELATED: GORDON CHANG: China Smiles As America Falls Deeper Into The TikTok Trap) Global Times, a semi-official tabloid, left Washington in no doubt about the meaning of what it called “intense warplane and warship activities.” “This could be seen as a warning to McCarthy that he should not follow his predecessor Nancy Pelosi’s suit in provocatively interfering in China’s internal affairs,” the paper declared . Yes, Beijing is unhappy that House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, fulfilling a promise he made while running for the post, is planning to visit Taipei. The Chinese foreign ministry was relatively restrained in its remarks about a possible McCarthy trip to the … [Read more...] about GORDON CHANG: Kevin McCarthy Squares Up Against The ‘World’s Largest Bully’ — China

Engineers From Taiwan Bolstered China’s Chip Industry. Now They’re Leaving.

November 16, 2022 by www.nytimes.com

TAIPEI, Taiwan — The job offer from a Chinese semiconductor company was appealing. A higher salary. Work trips to explore new technologies. No matter that it would be less prestigious for Kevin Li than his job in Taiwan at one of the world’s leading chip makers. Mr. Li eagerly moved to northeast China in 2018, taking part in a wave of corporate migration as the Chinese government moved aggressively to build up its semiconductor industry. He went back to Taiwan after two years, as Covid-19 swept through China and global tensions intensified. Other highly skilled Taiwanese engineers are going home, too. For many, the strict pandemic measures have been tiresome. Geopolitics has made the job even more fraught, with China increasingly vocal about staking its claim on Taiwan, a self-ruled democracy. The Taiwanese government has begun to discourage local engineers from going to China, concerned that they were taking proprietary information with them. “Some who went to … [Read more...] about Engineers From Taiwan Bolstered China’s Chip Industry. As Pelosi Arrives, Quiet Defiance in Taiwan

August 2, 2022 by www.nytimes.com

Follow our live coverage of Nancy Pelosi’s Taiwan visit . TAIPEI, Taiwan — In Washington, there has been anxious debate over whether Speaker Nancy Pelosi should risk the visit. In Beijing, there have been anger and threats . In Taiwan, where Ms. Pelosi landed late Tuesday, the new flare-up in tensions has been met with a subdued defiance. Politicians from Taiwan’s two main political parties have offered support for the trip, a sentiment echoed by many in the self-ruled democracy of more than 23 million people, which China claims as its own. While China released videos of planes and missiles flying to menacing music, one popular meme in Taiwan remade Ms. Pelosi as a powerful Taoist goddess. A Taiwanese politician wagered a chicken cutlet giveaway over her visit. Inured to living in one of the world’s most dangerous geopolitical flash points, Taiwanese people have largely taken the prospect of the visit in stride. That steely nonchalance belies a political reality that … [Read more...] about As Pelosi Arrives, Quiet Defiance in Taiwan
