A prominent Denver firm is merging with a California firm known for its work on water rights matters, creating a combination that will focus on such work throughout the western United States.Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck will tie the knot with Hatch & Parent on Jan. 1. It will still be based in Denver and retain the Brownstein name, and will have about 200 lawyers in 12 offices in the western U.S. and Washington, D.C., reports the Associated Press. However, the merger brings to Brownstein 30 new lawyers, 19 of whom practice water law, as well as five new California offices, reports the Denver Business Journal. It will create, says CEO and managing partner Bruce James, “the biggest water-law practice throughout the West,” reports the Business Journal.Water is an increasingly important issue because of climate change and a growing population, and the merger “will allow the combined firm to handle cases across the West at all stages, from arguing for water rights in … [Read more...] about Merged Firm to Corner Water Market?

How Today’s Top Law Firms Design Office Space for Efficiency

· June 4, 2013 ·

Technological advancements and the recovering economy are indeed changing the needs of today’s workforce as well as the need for improved efficiency in commercial office space. To date, much of the focus from experts has put a great emphasis on trends such as collaborative workstations and virtual office space. However, as Senior Vice President of a national real estate firm and leasing agent of the tallest office tower in Florida which is home to 415,000 square feet of law firm tenants (eight of those firms currently listed on the 2013 Am Law 200), I’ve noticed that top law firms are incorporating more modern, efficient designs geared towards costs savings and collaboration, taking a different approach than creative-focused companies. With employees and clients in mind, law firms are navigating the delicate balance of blending efficient design and modernizing with elements that permit confidentiality for face-to-face client meetings. As a result, efficiency for law firms … [Read more...] about How Today’s Top Law Firms Design Office Space for Efficiency

Kids as young as 8 being groomed by sick predators on TikTok app that is more popular than Snapchat

· February 20, 2019 ·

KIDS as young as eight are being targeted by predators and bombarded with sexually explicit messages on a new social media app, a Sun Online investigation has found. TikTok, which lets users create and share short videos with music and camera effects, has been branded a "magnet for paedophiles" by concerned campaigners and parents. Once logged in with an account, users can then post videos of themselves which are broadcast to other people - any of who can then message the person directly. Sun Online downloaded the app and within minutes was confronted by deeply disturbing and sexually suggestive comments underneath videos of young schoolchildren innocently singing or dancing. We saw some users telling young girls to “show me those legs baby come on” and describing them as “sexy”, “hot”, “yummy” and “proper fit”. One sick user said “I’ll risk the arrest…I don’t mind” under a video of a … [Read more...] about Kids as young as 8 being groomed by sick predators on TikTok app that is more popular than Snapchat

Life in Question…Continued

· July 1, 2006 ·

They lived diverse lives in different parts of the country, practicing in different areas of the law and dealing with different kinds of family demands. All had experienced a recent event that compelled them to question how they wanted to live their lives. And all had taken thoughtful, affirmative actions toward crafting an individualized answer.Fast-forward five years. At the request of the ABA Journal, these remarkable lawyers have again agreed to let readers into their lives, sharing how they’ve responded to challenge, change, heartache and joy while continuing the self-examination they find crucial to balancing life and the law.MELINDA BURROWSProgress EnergyRaleigh, N.C.Melinda Burrows left a partnership at a major law firm in Washington, D.C., for an in-house job in slower-paced North Carolina. The CIA’s communications catastrophic compromise started in Iran

· November 3, 2018 ·

In 2013, hundreds of CIA officers — many working nonstop for weeks — scrambled to contain a disaster of global proportions: a compromise of the agency’s internet-based covert communications system used to interact with its informants in dark corners around the world. Teams of CIA experts worked feverishly to take down and reconfigure the websites secretly used for these communications; others managed operations to quickly spirit assets to safety and oversaw other forms of triage.“When this was going on, it was all that mattered,” said one former intelligence community official. The situation was “catastrophic,” said another former senior intelligence official. 9 PHOTOS Notable data breaches in the US See Gallery Notable data breaches in the US Credit reporting company Equifax Inc. corporate offices are pictured in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S., September 8, 2017.
