Attorneys who represented Richmond lawyer Joe Morrissey, accused of a 2013 sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl who is now his wife, defended their own conduct and that of their client in a Virginia State Bar disciplinary hearing Tuesday.The bar is accusing Morrissey of misconduct before a three-judge panel this week. The allegations include lying to a court by attaching a fraudulent account of his defense to his Dec. 12, 2014, plea agreement in which he admitted that authorities could prove a misdemeanor charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.Morrissey’s lawyers, among them former House of Delegates Minority Leader Ward L. Armstrong, D-Henry, and Anthony F. Troy, former Virginia attorney general, testified Tuesday that they, not Morrissey, largely wrote the defense summary at issue.“There’s not a thing in here we didn’t have a good-faith basis for asserting in court,” Troy said.
