The amount of women elected to the incoming European Parliament will increase overall female representation from 36% to 39%. This means 286 of the 751 seats in the European Parliament will be filled by women. For Florence Blaimont, the CEO of the Wonderful Women (WoWo) Community, this spike is long overdue. The WoWo Community is an organization that promotes women's involvement in business and politics. "I see women's engagement in politics in the same way as I see it in higher management posts in big corporations," Blaimont said. "People think that if they invest a lot in their professional or political life, they will neglect their family. What is positive is that 85 percent of women would like to have a job that is more in tune with their ambitions." Julianne Moore says that for the movie industry to reach gender parity, it's necessary to implement quotas. Speaking at the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday, Moore said measures are needed to change the culture and that she believes in quotas. Moore says efforts should be made to level the playing field for women and minorities, and that "you have to open doors." While quotas haven't been much discussed in Hollywood, they're more common in Europe where filmmaking is often supported by public money. Sweden, Norway and Ireland have instituted 50-50 quotas in allocating public funds for male and female filmmakers, as has the British Film Institute. The petition moved by ‘Criminal Justice Society of India’ through advocate Fuzail Ahmad Ayubbi said Section 375 IPC be declared violative of Articles 14, 15 and 21 of Constitution of India insofar the definition of rape does not account for gender-neutrality.
