Leaving Children at Home? Teach Them These Safety Tips
Parents do everything to keep their kids safe. When it comes to younger kids, some members of the family are always there to take care of their safety. However, sometimes parents have to go out of the house due to some urgent work and have no other option but to leave the kids alone at home. This becomes a huge cause of concern for some parents. But some safety hacks, if taught to children, can prove to be reassuring the next time you leave the whole house to yourself. Some of the tips are: Before going out, give an extra phone number to the children so that they can contact you. You won’t worry, too, much about the kids that way. Do not forget to keep some food items in the house available before leaving the children alone at home. If India Wants Political Stability in Colombo, It Must Act in Interest of Sri Lankan People
On May 9, the largely peaceful anti-Rajapaksa protests in Sri Lanka took a violent turn. In the resulting violence, nine people died, including two policemen, with the agitating crowd burning down the home of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. Subsequently, while the Prime Minister resigned, his younger brother Gotabaya Rajapaksa remained the President. Facing nationwide civil unrest, the government imposed a curfew on May 9 and issued shoot at sight orders on those engaging in violence. Though the appointment of Ranil Wickremesinghe as Prime Minister has provided a semblance of political stability in the country, the protesters have refused to budge from their demand for the resignation of President Gotabaya. The continuing political and economic instability in Sri Lanka gave voice to the Indians on social media, supporting military intervention in the country. On May 10, former Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy tweeted that “India must send in the Indian Army to restore … [Read more...] about If India Wants Political Stability in Colombo, It Must Act in Interest of Sri Lankan People

Homeowner forced to use wheelie bins to save parking space on ‘nightmare’ road
A frustrated homeowner uses her wheelie bins to reserve parking outside her house. Helen Barrell said the parking situation on her road is a "nightmare", in part due to parents and teachers from a nearby school using it as an overspill. The 43-year-old also said despite the heavily congested road, many motorists still opt to drive at dangerous speeds and she fears there will be fatality, reports BirminghamLive. When the author and librarian, from Smethwick, West Midlands, had contractors coming to replace a window, she decided to try the trick to ensure they had somewhere to park. "I couldn't leave the contractors to carry it all the way up the road otherwise it risked being broken," said Helen, whose lived in Gladys Road, in the Bearwood area, for 12 years. Jake Daniels is a hero – more LGBT+ football players should follow suit
C ongratulations to Jake Daniels , the Blackpool FC player who has come out as gay aged 17, becoming the first active male player to come out at the top of the British male game since Justin Fashanu , who tragically took his own life in 1998. Conversations have spiralled for decades about why male footballers haven’t come out when statistically there are obviously gay men playing – and by contrast, the women’s team is replete with “out” players. Daniels becoming the first openly gay professional player in 30 years should be rightly praised, but questions remain: namely, why has it taken so long? In many ways, football feels like the last bastion of sexual intolerance; the last sport where you can’t say you’re gay, even though rugby, cricket and swimming have all had openly gay players for years. And while not enough praise can be heaped on Daniels for coming out, the reality of the scale of representation at the top of the Premier League is woeful. While football … [Read more...] about Jake Daniels is a hero – more LGBT+ football players should follow suit
