Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing the nation on the 75th anniversary of India’s independence from the Red Fort on Monday underscored that empowering women is crucial for the growth of the country, which is currently in the decade of digital revolution and innovations. Modi said: “Be it education or science, women of the country are at the top…Be it sports or battlefield, India’s women are stepping forward with a new capability and confidence.” “I see the immense contribution by women in 25 years to come, much more than that in the 75-year journey,” he noted. His Independence Day speech also included the major factors which emerged as the wheels of India’s growth vehicle. These include technological innovations, as well as startups from tier 2 and 3 cities. It is believed that participation from more women, in all these fields, will boost the growth of the country, while India is projected to be the world’s 3rd largest economy in the next 10 years. A road map for India-EU ties
While India celebrates its 75th year of Independence, it also celebrates 60 years of diplomatic relations with the European Union (EU). A cooperation agreement signed in 1994 took the bilateral relationship beyond trade and economic cooperation. The first India-EU Summit, in June 2000, marked a watershed in the evolution of the relationship. At the fifth India-EU Summit in 2004, the relationship was upgraded to a ‘Strategic Partnership’. The two sides adopted a Joint Action Plan in 2005 towards strengthening dialogue and consultation mechanisms in the political and economic spheres, enhancing trade and investment, and bringing peoples and cultures together. The 15th India-EU Summit, in July 2020, provided a common road map to guide joint action and further strengthen the partnership over the next five years. The road map highlights engagement across five domains: foreign policy and security cooperation; trade and economy; sustainable modernisation partnership; global governance; and … [Read more...] about A road map for India-EU ties
Bitcoins: missing the real revolution
The year 2013 was unequivocally the year of bitcoins, more than it will be the year of the commercialisation of 3D printers or the advent of private space flight. The bitcoins mining and transactions network first came online in late 2008, saw an adoption boom in early 2012, and got the attention of investors and governments late last year. It’s not really been as much a roller-coaster ride as an initiation into the Gartner hype cycle, and the slope of enlightenment is nowhere in the vicinity. Unfortunately for it, there’s a bigger problem: people have been having the wrong debate, all the way from those who want to get on the bandwagon because they know a bitcoin is worth $825.43 (1616 IST, January 3), to regulators arguing over whether or not cryptocurrencies can replace American dollars, to political economists asking if this is a libertarian agenda plotting to subvert the federal reserve. Needless to say, they’re all wrong. There are two aspects to bitcoins: one as the digital … [Read more...] about Bitcoins: missing the real revolution
Snake given robot legs to walk by inventor: “Cannot believe this works”
A YouTuber has gained millions of views in just a couple of days after he built robot legs to help a snake "walk." The video, released on August 13, was made by Allen Pan, a content creator who uses engineering know-how to create homemade exoskeletons, battlebots and other inventions that often attract millions of views online. Pan said the project's purpose was to prove that he is a "snake lover" after he attracted some criticism from a previous video in which he and some friends appeared to capture a wild snake with the alleged purpose of sneaking it past airport security. (The snake ended up escaping before this could be attempted.) In the new video, Pan said he feels sorry for snakes because "they lost their legs." It's thought that about 100 million to 150 million years ago, snakes roamed on legs before they evolved to the point where they could survive without them. The circumstances surrounding this change have been a topic of debate. Some argue that snakes lost … [Read more...] about Snake given robot legs to walk by inventor: “Cannot believe this works”
