Supreme Court to Hear Appeal of IOA against Delhi HC Order Setting Up Panel to Run it
The Supreme Court on Thursday agreed to hear during the day itself the appeal of the Indian Olympic Association challenging the Delhi High Court direction for setting up of a three-member Committee of Administrators (COA) to take over the affairs of the sports body. A bench headed by Chief Justice N V Ramana took note of the submissions of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta that the appointment of the CoA may lead to the Association’s suspension by the International Olympic Committee as it happened in the case of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) recently. India-China Relationship Going Through ‘Extremely Difficult Phase’: EAM Jaishankar
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Thursday that the relationship between India and China is going through an “extremely difficult phase” after what Beijing has done at the border and emphasised that the Asian Century will not happen if the two neighbours could not join hands. Jaishankar made the remarks while responding to a series of questions after delivering a lecture on ‘India’s Vision of the Indo-Pacific’ at the prestigious Chulalongkorn University here. Responding to a question, Jaishankar said that the Asian Century will happen when China and India come together but the Asian Century will be difficult to happen if India and China could not come together. “At the moment (the India-China) relationship is going through an extremely difficult phase after what China did at the border,” he said. The fourth phase of the Common Universities Entrance Test (CUET) 2022 began on Wednesday. On the second day of phase four of the exam, August 18, students found the papers to be easy except for mathematics, which has been considered as little moderate in difficulty level. The economics paper had questions based on concepts taught in class 12 while accountancy and English papers were on the easier, claimed students. In economics, “there was one case study with five questions and surprisingly the graph based questions were more like data interpretation. It’s been a month now that the Central University Entrance Test (CUET) 2022 began for admissions to undergraduate courses across colleges in the country. The initial plan of the exam-conducting body, National Testing Agency (NTA) was to complete the exams by August 20. Lack of Financial Model, Absence of Administrative Autonomy Hampering Growth of IITs: Former IIT Delhi Director
“A lack of financial model and the total absence of administrative autonomy are severely hampering the growth of IITs. A proper financial model is needed if we want to scale up the existing IITS,” says V Ramgopal Rao, former director of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. Sharing insights to make IITs successful, he added that creating more IITs can’t be a solution always. Talking about the lack of proper financial model at IIT, he said, “IITs receive generous grants is a myth. A major part of the grants (roughly 85 per cent at IIT Delhi) goes for payment of salaries, pensions and maintenance.” The former director shared the tips through social media platform, Twitter.
