August 18, 2022 by www.news18.com

Former Indian Super League champions Mumbai City FC (MCFC) overcame early hiccups to beat Indian Navy 4-1 in their opening Durand Cup match at the Saltlake Stadium here on Thursday. A two-goal blitz by substitute Lallianzuala Chhangte (89th, 90+1st) in the space of two minutes, following goals from Vikram Pratap Singh (45+4th) and Greg Stewart (65th) gave the Islanders full points from Group B. Navy’s seasoned goalkeeper-cum-captain Velutha Kulathil Vishnu was resolute under the bar and effected some fine saves to keep the ISL heavyweights at bay. Finally, Des Buckingham’s side got the much-needed breakthrough in the first-half injury time when Vikram made a fine run inside the box from the … [Read more...] about Durand Cup: Mumbai City Beat Indian Navy 4-1

Data opportunity at the G20

August 18, 2022 by www.thehindu.com

The global politics of data is rapidly evolving as leading and emerging digital economies like the European Union (EU), the U.S., India, Indonesia, and South Africa strive to protect, monetise, and leverage data collected within their territories for domestic purposes. The age of borderless data with limited or no government control, once an aspiration, appears behind us. Increasing privacy and security concerns coupled with economic interests have compelled governments to institute rules and standards that govern and restrict cross-border flows with natural implications for negotiations on global trade and commerce. Indeed, the sheer amount of data being generated and shared globally has necessitated governments to exert more control over the use, sharing, and cross-border flow of data. According to the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF), data localisation laws have more than doubled from 2017 to 2021, indicating that states seek and want increasing levels of … [Read more...] about Data opportunity at the G20

August 18, 2022 by www.news18.com

August 18, 2022 by www.news18.com

The fourth phase of the Common Universities Entrance Test (CUET) 2022 began on Wednesday. On the second day of phase four of the exam, August 18, students found the papers to be easy except for mathematics, which has been considered as little moderate in difficulty level. The economics paper had questions based on concepts taught in class 12 while accountancy and English papers were on the easier, claimed students. In economics, “there was one case study with five questions and surprisingly the graph based questions were more like data interpretation. Topics covered included macro-economic policy indicator, goal of five-year plan, great leap forward campaign, among others,” said Amitendra Kumar, Product Head – CUET & Under Graduate Programmes, Career Launcher. Lack of Financial Model, Absence of Administrative Autonomy Hampering Growth of IITs: Former IIT Delhi Director

August 18, 2022 by www.news18.com

“A lack of financial model and the total absence of administrative autonomy are severely hampering the growth of IITs. A proper financial model is needed if we want to scale up the existing IITS,” says V Ramgopal Rao, former director of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. Sharing insights to make IITs successful, he added that creating more IITs can’t be a solution always. Talking about the lack of proper financial model at IIT, he said, “IITs receive generous grants is a myth. A major part of the grants (roughly 85 per cent at IIT Delhi) goes for payment of salaries, pensions and maintenance.” The former director shared the tips through social media platform, Twitter.
