(Reuters) - Juergen Klopp gambled by making nine changes to his side for Tuesday's crucial Premier League game at Southampton but the Liverpool manager was left impressed by his fringe players after their 2-1 win kept the title race alive. The victory took Liverpool to within a point of leaders Manchester City ahead of the final round of matches on Sunday. Klopp, already without Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk due to injury, made a raft of changes to the side that beat Chelsea on penalties in the FA Cup final on Sunday. "After making nine changes, if it didn't work out it was my responsibility, now it worked out it's the boys' responsibility. I thought they did exceptionally well," said Klopp. "I'm so happy about the performance it was a bit touching. It's like having Ferraris in the garage." Takumi Minamino, one of the players brought in, cancelled out Nathan Redmond's early strike as Liverpool came from behind to pick up the win. "That Takumi doesn't play more … [Read more...] about Soccer-Klopp delighted with his fringe ‘Ferraris’ after win over Southampton

Soccer-Liverpool take title race down to the wire with win at Southampton
SOUTHAMPTON, England (Reuters) -Joel Matip's stooping header gave Liverpool a 2-1 win at Southampton on Tuesday to keep the Premier League title race alive until the final day of the season. The result leaves Liverpool a point behind leaders Manchester City ahead of Sunday's final round of games when City are at home to Aston Villa and Liverpool host Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield. City have 90 points with Liverpool on 89, meaning that victory for Pep Guardiola's side against Villa, managed by former Reds captain Steven Gerrard, would secure their fourth league title in five seasons. Juergen Klopp changed nine of the team who beat Chelsea on penalties in the FA Cup final on Saturday with Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah injured but several others rested. Klopp's choice was looking questionable when Southampton took a 13th-minute lead through a wonderful Nathan Redmond strike after the winger had cut in from the left flank. Roberto Firmino, who led the line in the absence … [Read more...] about Soccer-Liverpool take title race down to the wire with win at Southampton
Biden gives Republicans win on “Ministry of Truth”
The work of President Joe Biden 's Disinformation Governance Board has been put on pause by the Department of Homeland Security , in a move that Republicans are likely to hail as a win for the GOP. The board, which conservative critics have dubbed the "Ministry of Truth" in reference to George Orwell's 1984 , was dissolved on Monday, according to The Washington Post. Unlike the "Ministry of Truth," however, the board did not have the power to declare what would be true or false, nor did it have the ability to ask other parties to take action against certain types of speech. Nonetheless, the announcement of the disinformation board was met with immense GOP backlash . Although the DHS said its goal was to "coordinate countering misinformation related to homeland security," Republicans accused the Biden administration of being the arbiters of truth. Nina Jankowicz, who was tapped to head the board , resigned on Wednesday morning despite reportedly being offered the … [Read more...] about Biden gives Republicans win on “Ministry of Truth”
High jumper Woo Sang-hyeok wins Diamond League title
Woo Sang-hyeok competes during the men's high jump event during the Diamond League athletics Doha meeting at the Khalifa International stadium in Doha on May 13. [AFP/YONHAP] High jumper Woo Sang-hyeok became the first Korean ever to win a World Athletics Diamond League event on Friday, beating Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Mutaz Essa Barshim by three centimeters at Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, Qatar. Woo, the current world indoor champion, overcame the odds in very windy conditions to take first place with a height of 2.33 meters. With only four athletes managing to cleat 2.20 meters due to the unfavorable weather conditions — it was so windy in Doha that the men's pole vault had to be rescheduled — Woo's effort saw him far outpace the pack and take the world lead spot for the current season. After clearing 2.20 meters in one jump, Woo struggled at 2.24 meters, needing all three attempts to clear the bar. After that early stumble, Woo cleared 2.27 meters in two … [Read more...] about High jumper Woo Sang-hyeok wins Diamond League title

Putin is Winning the Energy War as Europe’s Paradoxical Drama on Russian Gas Imports Rages on
Amid the Russia-Ukraine war and all the ruckus about Russian energy imports, the West is emerging as a champion in doublespeak. Even as it wished for India to not buy Russian oil at a discount, the West has vacillated on the issue of buying Russian energy itself, leading to an increase in imports. The European Union is in a particularly hypocritical position, divided by Russia’s ‘blackmailing’ tactics. Not only is it far from weaning off Russian energy imports, but the EU is also on its way to complying with Russia’s ruble payment condition. If media headlines are anything to go by, if at one moment the EU is imposing sanctions on Russian gas imports so as to not bankroll Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, in the next moment, it is scrambling to circumvent the same sanctions and bankroll Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Indeed, the bloc is divided over how far its boycott of Russian gas can go and Putin’s “pay in ruble” curveball did the rest of the damage. But after hoodwinking EU countries … [Read more...] about Putin is Winning the Energy War as Europe’s Paradoxical Drama on Russian Gas Imports Rages on
Mexican archaeologist who led landmark Aztec Temple excavation wins major award
Eduardo Matos Moctezuma, a celebrated Mexican archaeologist who led the excavation of the Great Aztec Temple in Mexico City, won this year’s Princess of Asturias award in the social sciences category, the Spanish foundation behind the prizes announced Wednesday. The dig at the shrine, which was discovered by accident in 1978 after being buried under the city’s main plaza since the 16th century, was a landmark event in the archaeological world and drew intense interest as it proceeded for more than 20 years. That excavation, and others, represent “exemplary episodes of the scientific development of archaeology and a fruitful dialogue with the past, between separate cultures and between human and social sciences,” the Asturias Princess Foundation, which is named for Spanish Crown Princess Leonor, said in its citation. It also cited the “extraordinary intellectual rigor” of the 81-year-old Moctezuma, who has written several books as well as more than 500 articles, catalogues … [Read more...] about Mexican archaeologist who led landmark Aztec Temple excavation wins major award
Winning pose: Standing like Superman or Wonder Woman gives you super confidence
New research shows that dominant or upright postures can help people feel and even behave more confidently. An analysis by the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU), the University of Bamberg, and The Ohio State University, has confirmed what other studies supported. The team evaluated information from 130 experiments with a total of 10,000 participants. The results disproved the claim that certain poses influence the hormone levels of a person. Body language and posture are popular tools studied in psychology. Psychologist Robert Körner said: "In therapy, they can help people feel secure and experience positive feelings." The research focuses on the extent to which very bold poses influence a person's feelings and self-worth. The victory pose with outstretched arms is a common example which is meant to increase self-confidence. Körner adds: "However, many of these studies are inconclusive and were conducted with small samples. Moreover, studies sometimes have … [Read more...] about Winning pose: Standing like Superman or Wonder Woman gives you super confidence
