Mom switching baby formula escalates baby’s health issues

May 16, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Speaking about the strain put on them by the continuing baby formula shortage, one family said that switching to a new type of formula has caused their daughter health problems. Zaskiia Colon of El Cajon, California, spoke to CBS 8 about the problems she has faced trying to feed her 6-week-old daughter amid the formula shortage. She said that she, like many parents, has been driving around for hours, scouring the greater San Diego area for formula and often finding bare shelves. She also explained that she will not be able to switch her daughter, whose name she withheld for privacy reasons, to baby food until she is at least 4 months old. "I was just getting formula right now [prior to the interview]," Colon told CBS 8. "What am I supposed to do, I'm not producing enough milk." The situation got so severe for Colon that she attempted to give her daughter a different variety of baby formula than she was used to, swapping in Enfamil Gentlease Infant Formula Powder. Young children can easily see disturbing content on YouTube despite age restrictions

March 15, 2019 by www.independent.co.uk

The YouTube video starts with a popular British children's cartoon character, Peppa Pig , introducing herself and her family, but there are signs of trouble almost immediately. During the ninth second, Peppa's mother opens her mouth and shouts, "Smoke weed!" The video - a doctored version of a real Peppa episode - deteriorates from there. Over five minutes, there are explosions and racial and homophobic slurs, culminating with Peppa and her parents in dark sunglasses smoking marijuana as rapper Snoop Dogg dances nearby. Since it was uploaded in 2015, the altered video, which has no age restrictions, has been viewed more than 1.5 million times. After years of vowing to police inappropriate content, YouTube continues to deliver violent imagery, drug references, sexually-suggestive sequences and foul, racially-charged language in clips that reach children at a troubling pace, say researchers, parents and consumer groups. YouTube's recommendation algorithm, they say, … [Read more...] about Young children can easily see disturbing content on YouTube despite age restrictions

Starbucks breaks silence on abortion issues, will pay employee travel costs

May 16, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Starbucks on Monday became the latest major U.S. company to offer coverage for travel costs for employees seeking abortions out of state. The Seattle-based coffee giant follows the likes of Amazon , CitiGroup, Tesla , and Yelp, which have made similar pledges as numerous states work to roll back abortion rights or ban the practice outright. The coverage Starbucks plans to offer will be part of its benefits package for employees, and will therefore also be extended to dependents, according to U.S. News. "Regardless of what the Supreme Court ends up deciding, we will always ensure our partners have access to quality health care," Sara Kelly, Starbucks acting executive vice president of partner resources, said in a letter announcing the new coverage. In the letter, Kelly referred to the leaked Supreme Court opinion draft, written by Justice Samuel Alito , indicating that the court will soon overturn the landmark 1973 decision, Roe v. Wade , which guaranteed access to … [Read more...] about Starbucks breaks silence on abortion issues, will pay employee travel costs

Madison Cawthorn’s scandals haven’t put off his donors

May 16, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Republican Congressman Madison Cawthorn faces a tough test in the North Carolina Primary on Tuesday, after a series of controversies and antics that have threatened his chances of getting re-elected. Even Donald Trump has said he deserves a "second chance." But Cawthorn's donors haven't been deterred. Cawthorn's fundraising committee, Cawthorn for NC, saw a small decline in campaign contibutions in April. It received 827 donations in the month, according to Federal Election Commission filings, down from 1,252 in March, but that's in line with the flow of overall electoral donations nationally. Cawthorn for NC raised just under $66,000 in April, down from $103,000 in March. His highest fundraising month was $251,000 in June 2021. Equally, Cawthorn's Republican challengers who have raised the most in donations, Bruce O'Connell and Chuck Edwards, didn't see any major donation boosts to their campaigns in April, after Cawthorn's controversies, according to FEC data. … [Read more...] about Madison Cawthorn’s scandals haven’t put off his donors
