Sections Skip to content Skip to site index Feature The president whom the Senate Republican leader helped elect has turned out to be the one thing he can’t control. Mitch McConnell in the United States Capitol in December. Credit Credit Damon Winter/The New York Times Supported by ByCharles Homans Jan. 22, 2019 At sunrise, there it was: a red-tailed hawk, its gyre widening over the United States Capitol building in the Creamsicle-colored light, like the world’s least subtle literary reference. opinion Nancy Kaffer Detroit Free Press Published 11:00 p.m. UTC Aug 26, 2018 Let's just stop. This is what I've come up with, after years of writing and reading about the Wayne County Tax Foreclosure Auction, the Detroit homeowners displaced by it, the unjust criteria it has used to foreclose property, it has the damage it does to neighborhoods, and the myriad resources squandered in efforts to blunt the auction's harmful impact. Another was an offshore gambling operation that hid bets behind innocuous-sounding websites, including one dedicated to orange cats. A third was a phone-sex business catering to men with diaper fetishes or fantasies of raping women. Ahmad "Andy" Khawaja made his fortune in online payment processing for a host of companies, providing a key conduit in e-commerce for "high risk" merchants by helping route customers' credit card purchases to banks. And recently Khawaja has shared that wealth in the form of multimillion-dollar political donations, first to Hillary Clinton and then to Donald Trump. But thousands of internal company documents obtained by The Associated Press reveal that Khawaja's company, Allied Wallet Inc., has profited from guiding dubious businesses past the gates of the banking system. The records, which include email conversations as well as business … [Read more...] about AP: Donor helping fraudsters, offshore bettors backs Trump
