Anti-abortion centers to grow, wield more influence post-Roe

June 27, 2022 by www.sfgate.com

This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 6 CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — “Woman’s Choice,” the sign proclaims in bold pink letters. But despite promising abortion information and free pregnancy testing, the facility in Charleston, West Virginia, is designed to steer women facing an unwanted pregnancy away from choosing an abortion. That will become much easier now that the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that states like West Virginia can make abortion illegal. It's one of hundreds of so-called crisis pregnancy centers nationwide whose aim is to discourage women from seeking abortions. The facilities, which have been accused repeatedly of deceiving women about their true purpose, are expected to wield even more influence in states where the dwindling number of clinics are now canceling abortion appointments. Often religiously affiliated, the anti-abortion centers are not licensed medical facilities and do not … [Read more...] about Anti-abortion centers to grow, wield more influence post-Roe

After Roe v. Wade: Germany Announces Loosening of Abortion Laws

June 27, 2022 by www.breitbart.com

As the United States Supreme Court announced the overturning of Roe v. Wade , Germany voted to further liberalise its own abortion laws. Germany’s parliament has voted to further liberalise the country’s abortion laws, despite significant resistance from conservative and populist parties within the legislature. The decision coincided with a Supreme Court ruling in the U.S. which found that the country’s constitution did not actually guarantee a right to abortion, overturning the previous “Roe v. Wade” ruling that prevented individual American states from making their own local decisions on the matter. According to a report by Der Spiegel , the Bundestag voted on Friday to further relax restrictions on abortion laws across the Federal Republic. Pushed through by the country’s hard-left “traffic light” coalition government, the new measures repeal a ban on certain types of abortion advertising, something that right-leaning parties such as the Christlich Demokratische … [Read more...] about After Roe v. The Strange Tale of Tina Peters

June 26, 2022 by www.nytimes.com

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Just six weeks before the 2020 presidential election — game day for vote-counting bureaucrats — Tina Peters was so proud of her operation at the Mesa County clerk’s office that she invited a film crew in to show it off. There’s no chance of mishap here, she boasted. “The Russians can’t hack into and start casting votes for someone,” she said, as a few in the office chuckled. By May 2021, it was Ms. Peters, not the Russians, who had helped engineer an audacious breach of voting machines, according to an indictment charging her with seven felonies. Ms. Peters arranged to copy sensitive election software from county voting machines in an attempt to prove the 2020 presidential election was rigged, according to court records. Prosecutors said she committed identity theft and criminal impersonation, and violated the duties of her office in the process. Ms. Peters has pleaded not guilty. The strange tale of Tina Peters — a once-ordinary public servant … [Read more...] about The Strange Tale of Tina Peters

Planned Parenthood ‘Baby Parts’ Exposé Changes Abortion Debate

July 14, 2016 by www.breitbart.com

The pro-life group Center for Medical Progress (CMP) is releasing a video on the first anniversary of its undercover exposé unmasking Planned Parenthood’s abortion business. The series of videos last summer also exposed Planned Parenthood’s apparent practices of selling the body parts of babies it aborts on the open market and altering the position of babies during abortions in order to harvest their most intact organs. The story of the abortion giant’s alleged practices and those of biomedical procurement company StemExpress went viral last summer with the American public, leading to congressional investigations into Planned Parenthood and the entire abortion industry. The CMP video series changed the national debate about abortion by featuring discussions and negotiations with high-level Planned Parenthood medical directors and executives, who eat lunch and drink wine while haggling over prices for fetal organs. “As more details and evidence continue to emerge in the … [Read more...] about Planned Parenthood ‘Baby Parts’ Exposé Changes Abortion Debate

San Diego County man sentenced to 30 days in prison for Capitol breach

June 28, 2022 by www.latimes.com

A San Diego County man was sentenced Monday to 30 days in prison for his role in the U.S. Capitol insurrection on Jan. 6, 2021. Philip Weisbecker, 51, pleaded guilty in March to one misdemeanor count of parading or demonstrating in the Capitol. He is among a handful of people with San Diego ties who have been charged or linked to the Capitol breach . His attorney on Monday argued for a sentence of time served during a virtual hearing in Washington, D.C., where the massive federal prosecution is based. Prosecutors asked for three months in prison. The judge settled on 30 days of custody, which can be served intermittently on weekends if desired, along with two years of probation. Weisbecker had already agreed to pay $500 in restitution as part of his plea agreement to help cover damage to the Capitol. In a sentencing memorandum filed before the hearing, his lawyer said Weisbecker was influenced by “media manipulation” of the Black Lives Matter protests of 2020 and President … [Read more...] about San Diego County man sentenced to 30 days in prison for Capitol breach

G7 Leaders Unveil USD 600 Billion Plan to Rival China’s Belt and Road Initiative in Developing Nations

June 27, 2022 by www.news18.com

US President Joe Biden and other G7 leaders have unveiled ambitious plans to mobilise USD 600 billion in funding by 2027 to deliver transparent and game-changing infrastructure projects in developing countries like India, in a move seen as a counter to China’s Belt and Road Initiative. The Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII) unveiled on Sunday during the G7 Summit relaunches a scheme unveiled at last year’s G7 talks in England. President Biden said the plan would deliver returns for everyone. “Today, the nations of the G7 launched the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII),” Biden said. “Collectively, we aim to mobilise nearly USD 600 billion from the G7 by 2027 to invest in critical infrastructure that improves lives and delivers real gains for all of our people,” he tweeted. “I want to be clear the G7’s announcement of a new global infrastructure partnership isn’t aid or charity. It’s an investment that will deliver returns for … [Read more...] about G7 Leaders Unveil USD 600 Billion Plan to Rival China’s Belt and Road Initiative in Developing Nations

Amma Unavagams losing sheen

June 17, 2022 by www.thehindu.com

Amma Unavagams in Tiruchi are losing steam due to laxity in their functioning and poor patronage. Customers feel that the canteens have lost its sheen over the years. Lack of adequate funds, infrastructure and poor management are some of the reasons attributed to the downfall of Amma canteens, according to the regulars and staff at the canteens. The self-help groups (SHGs) who run the canteens claim that there is less patronage now. “Lesser variety of food, failure to upgrade the menu, poor maintenance, infrastructural issues had led to a fall in patronage. People complain about lack of varieties, especially for breakfast and dinner,” said a staff in one of the canteens. According to Anbu, a regular customer, the canteen lacks cleanliness and is in a bad condition. "The dining space and tables are not cleaned regularly, and food is spilt all over. The canteens must be maintained properly.” Out of the 11 canteens, only a few get 300 to 400 customers a day, while the others have … [Read more...] about Amma Unavagams losing sheen

Dyslexia helped evolutionary survival of humans, research suggests

June 27, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Dyslexia has affected some of history's greatest minds, including Leonardo da Vinci, Albert Einstein, Pablo Picasso and Sir Stephen Hawking. This list includes entrepreneurs like Sir Richard Branson and Steve Jobs - who went on to build billion-dollar companies. Now scientists have discovered that people with dyslexia have special skills that enabled our species to survive. They are better at solving problems and adapting to challenges and could hold the key to tackling climate change. Those with the common learning disability specialize in exploring the unknown - likely to be vital in the coming decades. The findings published in the journal Frontiers in Psychology have implications both at the individual and societal levels. Lead author Dr. Helen Taylor, of the University of Cambridge , U.K., said: "The deficit-centered view of dyslexia isn't telling the whole story. Poll: GOP’s Van Orden Leads Dem Baldus McGrath on Initial Ballot

June 28, 2022 by www.breitbart.com

Republican Derrick Van Orden shows a strong lead against his Democrat opponent, Deb Baldus McGrath, on her recent internal poll. McGrath’s internal poll, conducted by Public Policy Polling, found that Van Orden led his Democrat opponent by nine points. Forty-seven percent said they would vote for Van Orden, while only 38 percent would vote for McGrath. After the respondents were told about the candidates’ different views on abortion, Van Orden and McGrath were tied 43 percent to 43 percent. The Republican is pro-life, while McGrath says the choice is “between her and her doctor, not by the government” — which did not acknowledge how extreme her views are on abortion. Public Policy acknowledged that Van Orden has much higher name recognition, partly due to running in the same district in 2020 and 2022. He ran against returning Rep. Ron Kind (D-WI) in 2020 and initially in this cycle, as well, until he decided to retire after being hammered in the news for accepting … [Read more...] about Poll: GOP’s Van Orden Leads Dem Baldus McGrath on Initial Ballot
