THE devastated family of murdered Grace Millane have revealed how they have endured "two weeks of hell" since her disappearance and death in New Zealand. They also paid tribute to the "beautiful" backpacker and revealed how she had a passion for travelling and was recently planning a return trip to the Far East. Grace's body was found by police on the outskirts of Auckland after she went missing on December 1, the day before her 22nd birthday. However, her family have now told the Sunday Times they hope the death "will not deter even one person from venturing out into the world." And as dad David returned back home to the UK with his daughter's body, the rest of Grace's family paid tribute to the "beautiful daughter and sister." Brothers, Michael, 29, and Declan, 26, and mother, Gillian, said she had "a passion to see the world" and had more travel plans up her sleeve. "We all fly the nest," said Michael. NEW Zealand's Prime Minister today told the family of murdered Brit backpacker Grace Millane: "I'm sorry." Jacinda Ardern's tearful apology came as the man accused of the 22-year-old's murder faced angry abuse as he made his first appearance in court last night. Wearing blue police-issue overalls, the 26-year-old faced Auckland District Court and stood for nearly 90 minutes just yards from Grace's dad and uncle. The killing has shocked residents of New Zealand, where serious crimes are relatively rare and camping in remote mountains and farmlands is widely regarded as safe for tourists and New Zealanders alike. She said: "On behalf of New Zealand, I want to apologise to Grace's family. Your daughter should have been safe here and she wasn't, and I am sorry for that. "There is this overwhelming sense of hurt and shame that this has happened in our country, a place that prides itself on our hospitality, on our manaakitanga," she said, using a Maori word for welcoming and generosity. … [Read more...] about Grace Millane ‘should have been safe here’ tearful New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern tells murdered backpacker’s family
