In an interview with Associated Press, the 90-year-old conductor/composer hinted that Indiana Jones 5 might be his last film. Williams cited star Harrison Ford's announcement that Indiana Jones 5 will be his last film.as a motivating factor in his decision. “At the moment I’m working on Indiana Jones 5 , which Harrison Ford — who’s quite a bit younger than I am — I think has announced will be his last film. So, I thought: If Harrison can do it, then perhaps I can, also,” he said in the interview, adding that the six-month commitment to score most blockbuster films is 'at this point in life ... a long commitment to me.” The five-time Oscar winner will still be involved in music though, and plans to focus more on concert music. Senate passes first gun bill in 28 years, but it does less than 1994 law
The Senate overcame a decades-long legislative log jam by passing a bill intended to reduce gun violence, but left out a key provision from the last time Congress took up firearm safety. The Senate passed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act on a 65-33 bipartisan vote Thursday evening. Spurred by the elementary school shooting Uvalde, Texas, and other recent massacres, the legislation seeks to keep firearms from dangerous individuals. However, gun control advocates pointed out that the bill doesn't reinstate the 1994 ban on semiautomatic military-style rifles that has been credited with reducing firearm-related violence. Fifteen Republicans senators joined Democrats in voting for the legislation, which allowed it to clear a legislative filibuster in the evenly divided chamber. "This is the sweet spot," said Republican Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the Senate's minority leader. McConnell, who has an A+ rating from the National Rifle Association, said the bill would make … [Read more...] about Senate passes first gun bill in 28 years, but it does less than 1994 law
No One Does a Comeback Like J. Lo
Jennifer Lopez has lived more lives than most celebrities. She’s been a dancer and a movie star and a pop singer and an entrepreneur and a reality-TV mainstay and part of the reason for the existence of Google Images . She’s been box-office gold and box-office poison. She’s considered one of the most influential Latina celebrities in America, both revered and denigrated—though not always in equal measure . Consider it a minor miracle, then, that Halftime , the Netflix documentary about Lopez’s career, has room to trace more than 30 years of fame as well as follow her in the months leading up to her performance at the 2020 Super Bowl. Like other celebrity-endorsed portraits , Halftime feels both candid and safe. The director Amanda Micheli’s interviewees include only Lopez and members of her team—her parents, her manager, and, yes, Ben Affleck—and the behind-the-scenes footage comes across as familiar. Yet Halftime isn’t entirely a hagiography. After the … [Read more...] about No One Does a Comeback Like J. Lo
Wondering what to do with your salary? These Indian financial influencers can help you save money
A decade ago, financial advice meant visiting a primly dressed, mostly middle-aged CA’s office and trying to make sense of mundane jargon, percentages, figures, benefits, and risks... Cut to the present: A brigade of 20 and 30-somethings, in far from formal attire, have taken over social media to dole out financial know-how from the comforts of their homes — their backgrounds, however, keep changing from nightclubs to parking lots, office cubicles to automobile showrooms and so on. Say hello to finfluencers or financial influencers, sporting mock moustaches, dramatic expressions, and exaggerated accents, in a bid to simplify finance. They creatively use everyday concepts such as shoe sales, vacations, and buttered parathas even, to draw comparisons with financial terms and explain them through short fun Reels, posts or YouTube videos. Given that Income Tax season is upon us. You might just want to pay attention. The rise of finfluencers first started with the COVID-19 … [Read more...] about Wondering what to do with your salary? F1 news LIVE: Lewis Hamilton urged to step aside and retire from Formula 1
Formula 1’s rising popularity driven by Netflix series Formula 1 legends Sir Jackie Stewart and David Coulthard have urged Lewis Hamilton to ‘step aside’ and ‘retire’ from the sport to avoid the ‘pain’ of not being able to compete as he used to behind the wheel. Hamilton has struggled to adapt to Mercedes new W13 car in 2022 only finishing on the podium twice in nine races and has repeatedly been out-driven by teammate George Russell. He sits almost 100 points behind rival Max Verstappen in the standings and the Silver Arrows are still coming to terms with their car being the third-fastest on the grid. Stewart explained that he feels Hamilton is finding it difficult to handle the skill of his new teammate and doesn’t believe the seven-time wolrd champion can make it back to the top level of the sport saying: “He’s now struggling a little bit because he’s had a new teammate who’s been quicker than him in qualifying so far, which is gonna be difficult for him to handle. … [Read more...] about F1 news LIVE: Lewis Hamilton urged to step aside and retire from Formula 1
Nature Writing That Sees Possibility in Climate Change
In October, the residents of Newtok, Alaska, are expected to begin relocating because of climate change. And it’s not just the people who are moving. The town is packing up everything—including its school and airport —and starting over on higher ground nine miles away. Sitting between two rivers on the state’s southwestern coast, Newtok voted to move in 1996 , but governmental red tape and the project’s high cost, more than $100 million, have contributed to the delay. As rising tides claim their land and record-breaking heat melts the permafrost beneath their homes, Newtok’s 354 residents hope to complete their move by 2023. “We cannot wait anymore,” the village’s relocation coordinator told Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska in August . Residents of other Alaskan towns and villages may soon be saying something similar, if they aren’t already. Ninety-two miles east of Newtok, the 350 people who live in Napakiak are retreating from the Kuskokwim River, moving back their houses … [Read more...] about Nature Writing That Sees Possibility in Climate Change

‘I tried the healthy Coca Cola trend out of morbid curiosity and was disgusted’
I was so keen to try the TikTok ‘healthy Coke’ trend when I saw it - not because I’m an avid Coke drinker, I can’t really stand the stuff unless it comes with rum - but because I’m morbidly curious about weird trends like this. From watching the videos, I already had a gut feeling that it would probably taste just like drinking a cup of vinegar, but I just had to try it out myself for science. The trend seemed to first surface after Amanda Jones first shared a tutorial for the low-sugar alternative to Coca-Cola earlier in June, using a ‘splash’ of balsamic vinegar and ‘any sparkling beverage’ in a glass with ice. If it looks like Coca Cola, surely it tastes like it...right? ( Image: Danielle Wroe) She said her pilates instructor suggested it to her, and promised TikTokers that the beverage tasted ‘just like a coke.’ At the end of the video, she smiles after taking a sip and says it’s ‘so good.’ I mean, if it looks like Coke, surely there’s a teeny tiny chance … [Read more...] about ‘I tried the healthy Coca Cola trend out of morbid curiosity and was disgusted’
Energy Secretary Granholm Claims She Doesn’t Know How to Boost Gas Production
President Joe Biden’s energy secretary, Jennifer Granholm, expressed ignorance ahead of a high-profile meeting with executives, stating she does not know what oil companies need to produce more gasoline. “It’s not about funding, but perhaps there is something that they need — some additional help with identifying a supply chain issue,” Granholm told reporters during the daily briefing at the White House on Wednesday. “We — I just don’t know. So we’ll see.” Granholm, who is in charge of America’s energy, is expected to meet with oil company CEOs on Thursday, weeks after gas prices rose to new record highs. She tried to extend positive feelings about the upcoming meeting, despite spending her entire career as energy secretary condemning fossil fuels. “This is an honest, earnest conversation tomorrow asking how can we be partners in providing relief for people at the pump,” she said. Granholm’s tone was different from Biden’s stern letter to oil companies last week in which … [Read more...] about Energy Secretary Granholm Claims She Doesn’t Know How to Boost Gas Production
Love Island stars rehearse recoupling speeches with producers, claims ex-Islander
A former Love Island has claimed that Islanders rehearse their speeches with producers before filming the recoupling. The ceremony is said to go on for hours , often filming in the dead of night. Opening up about her own experience on the ITV2 show back in 2020, during the winter series, Shaughna Phillips spoke about the long process. Quizzed on how long it takes to shoot, the 26-year-old said: "Hours. Hours. You don’t normally have to re-do… if it’s something very dramatic, then obviously they can’t really redo that. Shaughna Phillips was brutally snubbed at her recoupling in 2020 "But when you’re doing, like, the ‘I would like to couple up with this person because…’ you do that in three sections. So you say that, and then you have a big pause, then you say the next bit, pause." She added on the Should I Delete That podcast: "You kind of go over it with a producer before, that night.
