ISIS may be regaining strength just five months after it was ousted from its final stronghold in the Middle East, it has been claimed. Islamic State fighters have been conducting guerrilla raids across Iraq and Syria as it attempts to recruit new members at allied-run camps, US intelligence officials say. Sleeper cells have carried out sniper attacks, kidnappings and assassinations against security forces and other political leaders in recent months. The terror group has around 18,000 fighters and has smuggled a $400m (£331m) war chest into neighbouring countries to help finance its fanatical religious war against the West, it is alleged. Vladimir Putin could be poised to unleash carnage with a new bombing campaign - and a Syrian doctor has warned the devices can tear human bodies apart. More than 50 'barrel bomb specialists' have been deployed to Russia to work alongside officials from Russian President Vladimir Putin's army, European intelligence officers told the Guardian. Barrel bombs are oil drums, fuel tanks or gas cylinders filled with explosives, shrapnel and sometimes even chlorine. They are cheap weapons typically dropped off helicopters and have killed more than 11,000 civilians in Syria since 2012. Walid Tamer, a doctor in Syria's capital Aleppo, has treated victims of barrel bombs by the Syrian government, or its ally Russia, while also surviving attacks himself. "Yarn bombing," for those out of the loop, is a public and oft-times guerrilla art form in which all kinds of objects, from parking meters to hulking vehicles, get covered in brightly covered yarn. You might also know this object as the maneki neko —a Japanese term that roughly translates into English as “beckoning cat.” This animal-shaped object comes in various sizes, and might be constructed from a host of materials: plaster, plastic, porcelain, vinyl. Its raised and beckoning paw, not waving “hello” but coaxing you to come a bit closer, may or may not be moving—robotically, hypnotically—back and forth. Sonny Barger, the bigger-than-life godfather of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club, equal parts brawler, bully, braggart, rule breaker and shrewd huckster of his own outlaw mystique, has died at 83.
