From struggling behind the scenes to "rolling around in hysterics," we look at how Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have found Archie's first year. The youngster turns one today at home with his parents in Los Angeles and with a new post-royal life ahead of him. His first year saw seismic change for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as they turned their backs on royal life for a new chapter in California. But it all began when they were living in Frogmore Cottage, in Windsor Castle, on May 6 last year at 5.26 a.m. Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was born weighing 7 lbs 3 oz, leaving his parents "over the moon," Prince Harry said. He told journalists gathered at Windsor Castle: "We're both absolutely thrilled and so grateful for all the love and support from everybody out there. It's been amazing." He added: "As every father and parent will ever say, you know, your baby is absolutely amazing, but this little thing is absolutely to-die-for, so I'm just over the moon." And he … [Read more...] about Baby Archie’s first birthday: Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s journey from vulnerability to hysterics

Queen is determined to keep Prince Andrew around because he is ‘intensely loyal’
Prince Andrew's fall from grace after his involvement in the Jeffery Epstein scandal has been widely publicised - but constant claims that he wants to be rehabilitated back into the royal fold continue to surface. The Queen's ongoing support for The Duke of York has also prompted many people to question why the monarch is still standing by her son's side, seemingly unphased by the troubles he has encountered. It is well-known that Andrew is considered to be Her Majesty's favourite child and still retains that title despite recent events. The reason for their closeness was unpicked when The Mirror's royal podcast, Pod Save the Queen , spoke to the famed biographer, Andrew Morton about his 25th book 'The Queen'. The show's host Zoe Forsey spoke to the author and asked about Her Majesty's unwavering support for her second son and why he thinks Andrew will never lose his mother's confidence. It is widely believed that Prince Andrew is The Queen's favourite child ( … [Read more...] about Queen is determined to keep Prince Andrew around because he is ‘intensely loyal’
Prince Andrew ‘won’t be cast out’ by royals in case he writes tell-all book, expert says
Prince Andrew won't be "cast out" by the royals and will be made financially secure to stop him from writing a tell-all book, a royal expert has claimed. The Duke of York stepped down from royal duties in the wake of a sex scandal earlier this year and had his military titles and royal patronages stripped from him. He denied the allegations against him and later came to an out of court settlement with his accuser . The settlement is not an admission of guilt. He was forced to remain out of sight during the Garter Day procession earlier this month after a "family decision" was taken to limit his appearance to a behind-the-scenes lunch and investiture ceremony. Prince Andrew, who has stepped away from public life ( Image: Getty Images) The duke also missed out on the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations due to Covid, although is reportedly a frequent visitor to see his mother at Windsor Castle. But despite not taking a part in public life, royal expert and … [Read more...] about Prince Andrew ‘won’t be cast out’ by royals in case he writes tell-all book, expert says

J.K. Rowling falls for Russian pranksters posing as Zelensky in Zoom call
J.K. Rowling fell victim to a hoax played by a pair of Russian pranksters, who tricked the author into believing she was speaking with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on a Zoom call. The Harry Potter author was pranked by duo Vovan and Lexus—whose victims have included Vice President Kamala Harris , Bernie Sanders , Prince Harry , Billie Eilish , Elton John, and former President George W. Bush . In a video released on YouTube, Rowling sat down with a person she believed to be Zelensky, as the impersonators praised her work and made a number of increasingly awkward comments. They do not appear on camera in the recording of the call, but Rowling does. During one moment of the 12-minute video, the pranksters said that the lightning bolt on her famous character Harry Potter's forehead looked like the letter "Z"—a symbol used on Russian tanks amid its ongoing invasion of Ukraine. In light of the conflict, the pranksters asked Rowling if she would be able to … [Read more...] about J.K. Rowling falls for Russian pranksters posing as Zelensky in Zoom call

Rights of the loom: Malvika Singh discusses her ‘Sarees of Memory’ project
A sunny, sweltering summer afternoon in Delhi sees the gates of the Brazilian embassy open to visitors. Not for caipirinhas, but for a pop-up (the ambassador is a friend of craft) featuring, among home accessories and garments, a line of exquisite saris developed by textile maven and author Malvika Singh . The shopping experience is in collaboration with Yali , the retail wing of The Registry of Sarees project, headed by perfumer and textile lover Ahalya Matthan . And the stars are the handwoven cotton Venkatgiri saris that feature Kannada characters, stretching along the borders, telling the story of the Hindu god Vishnu. Malvika has just come off a mid-pandemic collaboration spree, the Sarees of Memory project, with weavers of 21 traditional saris — crafting designs and kickstarting bouts of reclamation that will ensure the weavers’ gainful involvement. “It’s not just about selling the sari, but about how individuals can become catalysts to revive existing skills and make … [Read more...] about Rights of the loom: Malvika Singh discusses her ‘Sarees of Memory’ project
