The 2014 novel by Ferndale author/musician Josh Malerman has landed for the first time on the New York Times best-seller list, thanks to the overwhelming success of the Sandra Bullock-starring horror movie from Netflix. It ranks fourth for combined print and e-book fiction — and it's on the rise. Last week, it debuted at seventh place. The novel also bumped former First Lady Michelle Obama's memoir "Becoming" from the top of the Apple books list. As of Thursday, "Bird Box" was at No. 1, with "Becoming" in second place. For a book that debuted modestly five years ago, it's the publishing world equivalent of going viral (just like "Bird Box" memes and jokes have). Riley, who’s been with the MNB program nearly 18 years and is on the selection committee of librarians, booksellers, reviewers and educators, says the criteria is simple. Jonathan and Drew Scott are identical twins who, for the last eight years, have been the reigning princes of TV home renovation. They are the stars of the HGTV series, "Property Brothers."
