Transgender athletes are unable to compete in women’s international rugby league matches, including this year’s World Cup, the sport’s global governing body has announced. In a statement, the International Rugby League (IRL) said it would use the end-of-year event to help develop a “transwomen inclusion policy” for the future which “takes into consideration the unique characteristics of rugby league”. “Until further research is completed to enable the IRL to implement a formal transgender inclusion policy, male-to-female (transwomen) players are unable to play in sanctioned women’s international rugby league matches,” the IRL said. “The IRL is continuing work to review and update rules about transgender participation in women’s international rugby league and will seek to use the upcoming World Cup to help develop a comprehensive inclusion policy.” Recommended Caitlyn Jenner says she backs ban of transgender swimmers from women's events England … [Read more...] about IRL: Transgender athletes unable to compete in women’s international matches

NBC Ombudsman Promises To Review Phil Griffin Perjury Claims
Despite NBC News chairman Andy Lack, NBC News president Deborah Turness and innumerable MSNBC personalities pulling a deaf-mute routine about MSNBC president Phil Griffin falsely testifying that he recruited ex-host Ed Schultz because he impressively asked Barack Obama a question at his first presidential press conference , the NBC Universal “ombudsperson” just agreed to investigate. It shouldn’t take too much due diligence. As Schultz was forced to admit at his comical breach of partnership trial that kicked off before a Washington federal judge one year ago Wednesday — happy anniversary, Ed — he attended the press conference but uttered nary a word. In fact, there is no video of Schultz ever asking Obama anywhere or even being in the same room with him, according to an exhaustive Google search. That leaves Griffin with little wiggle room to refute perjury charges by claiming he made an honest mistake, says law professor Geoffrey Hazard , one of the most foremost civil … [Read more...] about NBC Ombudsman Promises To Review Phil Griffin Perjury Claims
U.N. oceans conference eyes steps toward high seas agreement
The United Nations is hoping an international conference that got underway on June 27 will bring fresh momentum to protracted efforts for a global agreement on protecting the world’s oceans. The five-day U.N. Ocean Conference in Lisbon, Portugal has drawn senior officials and scientists from more than 120 countries to the Atlantic port city in Southwest Europe, as well as activists dismayed by the failure to come up with international rules that might ensure ocean sustainability. No comprehensive legal framework covers the high seas. Oceans cover some 70% of the earth’s surface and provide food and livelihoods for billions of people. Some activists refer to them as the largest unregulated area on the planet. In his opening remarks at the conference, U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged countries to show “unity and togetherness around the issues of the sea”. “Sadly, we have taken the ocean for granted, and today we face what I would call an ocean emergency,” Mr. … [Read more...] about U.N. oceans conference eyes steps toward high seas agreement

US President Joe Biden and other G7 leaders have unveiled ambitious plans to mobilise USD 600 billion in funding by 2027 to deliver transparent and game-changing infrastructure projects in developing countries like India, in a move seen as a counter to China’s Belt and Road Initiative. The Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII) unveiled on Sunday during the G7 Summit relaunches a scheme unveiled at last year’s G7 talks in England. President Biden said the plan would deliver returns for everyone. “Today, the nations of the G7 launched the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII),” Biden said. “Collectively, we aim to mobilise nearly USD 600 billion from the G7 by 2027 to invest in critical infrastructure that improves lives and delivers real gains for all of our people,” he tweeted. “I want to be clear the G7’s announcement of a new global infrastructure partnership isn’t aid or charity. Biden aims at China in new illegal fishing policy framework
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 3 LISBON, Portugal (AP) — The Biden administration is stepping up efforts to combat illegal fishing by China, ordering federal agencies to better coordinate among themselves as well as with foreign partners in a bid to promote sustainable exploitation of the world's oceans. On Monday, the White House released its first ever National Security memo on illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, or IUU, to coincide with the start of a United Nations Ocean Conference in Lisbon, Portugal. Nearly 11% of total U.S. seafood imports in 2019 worth $2.4 billion came from illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, according to the U.S. International Trade Commission, a federal agency. While China isn't named in the lengthy policy framework, language in it left little doubt where it was aimed. The memo is bound to irritate Beijing at a time of growing geopolitical competition between the … [Read more...] about Biden aims at China in new illegal fishing policy framework

Restrain judicial review Judicial review allows the Supreme Court to declare a legislative or executive action to be in violation of the Constitution. The doctrine was established in the case of Marbury v. Madison in 1803, deciding that the Supreme Court has the power to overturn an act of Congress or an executive order on the ground that it violates the Supreme Law of the Land —the Constitution.
