President Donald Trump has won the power to shut down the asylum system, complain pro-migration advocates, ending a process which has been exploited by millions of economic migrants to get blue collar jobs in the United States. The protests came late Wednesday after the U.S. Supreme Court announced it would let Trump’s asylum reforms operate while California judges review their legality. The court’s decision means Trump’s reforms can operate well into 2020, giving voters a clear way to assess the impact of Trump’s 2020 promises. “Tonight’s news that the Trump administration will be able to move ahead on what is essentially a complete shutdown of the asylum system at the Southern border is truly awful,” said Todd Schulte, the top lobbyist for a group of wealthy West Coast investors. “It will come with tremendous harm and human cost,” added Schulte, who is the director of FWD.us. His investor group — which reaps large stock … [Read more...] about Donald Trump Wins ‘Complete Shutdown of the Asylum System’

President Trump floated a "potential path to citizenship" for H1-B visa holders in an early Friday morning tweet, as the partial government shutdown is set to become the longest shutdown on record. It's unclear what Mr. Trump meant exactly, as simplifying a path to citizenship for such visa holders would almost certainly require approval from Congress, and the White House has made no such suggestion in its latest border security funding proposal, or any other public offer. "H1-B holders in the United States can rest assured that changes are soon coming which will bring both simplicity and certainty to your stay, including a potential path to citizenship," Mr. Trump tweeted. "We want to encourage talented and highly skilled people to pursue career options in the U.S."The H-1B visa, under the Immigration and Nationality Act, lets U.S. employers temporarily employ foreign workers with at least a bachelor's degree for speciality occupations. By John Woolfolk | [email protected] | Bay Area News Group PUBLISHED: December 21, 2018 at 1:03 pm | UPDATED: December 21, 2018 at 10:17 pm With Democrats and Republicans in Congress — propelled by President Trump — locked in a feud over border policy, the federal government entered a partial shutdown at 9 p.m. Friday. But access to Alcatraz Island and other National Parks is at risk — call before you go! — and if the shutdown lingers, everything from tax refunds to issuing of passports could be delayed. It is the third shutdown this year, after a three-day closure in January followed by a brief, early-morning lapse in February that ended before dawn when the President signed a $400 billion spending deal. The hangups … [Read more...] about So the U.S. government shut down: What’s that mean for you?
