Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj S Bommai has come out in favour of Kannada actor Kiccha Sudeep, a day after a debate arose over the national language following a Twitter fight between Bollywood superstar Ajay Devgn and him. “Our states were formed because of languages. Regional languages have been given importance. Sudeep’s statement is right and everyone should respect that,” Bommai said. His statement came after former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah responded to the Twitter conversation between Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn and Kannada actor Sudeep by saying that Hindi was never and will never be India’s national language, which was the main point of contention in the exchange. “I am proud to be a Kannadiga,”  the former chief minister stated, adding that it is every Indian’s responsibility to appreciate the country’s linguistic variety.  “Each language has its own rich history for its people to be proud of,” Siddaramaiah said. Tom Cruise fans – many of whom weren’t born when the original “Top Gun” movie came out in 1986 – were out in force in Cannes on Wednesday evening for a special screening of “ Top Gun: Maverick ,” Cruise’s hotly anticipated sequel to 1986 hit “Top Gun.” The crowd outside the Palais des Festivals convention center, where the screening was set to take place, ran 20-people deep in some places, while the street opposite the red carpet was also crowded to the point that passers by were struggling to squeeze through. More Than 30 Yrs in Jail, Supreme Court ‘Frees’ Perarivalan, the Life Convict in Rajiv Gandhi Assassination Case The Supreme Court has ordered the release release of AG Perarivalan, one of the life convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, who has been behind bars for 31 years. A bench headed by Justice L Nageswara Rao invoked its extraordinary power under Article 142 to grant relief to Perarivalan. “State cabinet had taken its decision based on relevant considerations. Amber Heard has testified that she was initially let go from her Aquaman 2 contract amid the negative publicity surrounding her relationship with ex-husband Johnny Depp . Heard's tumultuous, ill-fated marriage to Depp has been the focus of an avalanche of headlines in recent years, thanks to a libel court battle that took place in London back in 2020 and their ongoing defamation trial in Fairfax, Virginia. Their court proceedings arose after Depp, 58, filed a $50 million lawsuit against Heard, 36, accusing her of defamation over an op-ed published by The Washington Post , in which she said she was a victim of domestic abuse. While Heard did not name Depp in the article, his lawyers argued it was clear she was referring to the star. Heard is countersuing for $100 million for nuisance.
