Voters in Georgia, Alabama, Texas, and Arkansas are selecting their GOP and Democrat nominees in several hotly contested primary states on Tuesday, while voters in a key congressional district in Minnesota will select who will represent their parties in the seat the late Rep. Jim Hagedorn (R-MN) once represented. Georgia’s banner race is the GOP governor primary, where incumbent Gov. Brian Kemp aims to fend off a primary challenge from former U.S. Sen. David Perdue (R-GA). Perdue, backed by former President Donald Trump in one of Trump’s highest profile intra-GOP fights to date, has trailed Kemp in many recent polls by significant margins but hopes that new voters not registering in polling data might make up the difference for him. The winner between Kemp and Perdue will face off against Democrat Stacey Abrams in November, as Abrams seeks to make her second bid for the governor’s mansion as the Democrat nominee official on Tuesday night while she runs uncontested in that party’s … [Read more...] about *** Election Night Livewire *** GA, AL, TX, AR, MN Vote in Primaries

Pavement Takes the Stage for First Time in 12 Years at Rarities-Filled Tour Warmup Show in L.A.: Concert Review
Click here to read the full article. When the iconic indie-rock forebear Pavement last reunited, for a massive tour in 2010, it was a tale of two bands, depending on when you saw them. At the beginning of the run, the lineup was tighter and mightier than ever, playing Coachella with the grit of a band determined to solidify its legacy while collecting paychecks and playing venues exponentially bigger than those it hit during its initial run. If you saw Pavement at the end of the tour, though, you saw a band going through the same issues that led it to break up in the first place. At the Hollywood Bowl on the second-to-last-night of that run, the tension onstage between Stephen Malkmus and the rest of the band was palpable; it was a miracle they got through that show, not to mention the four that followed it, before calling it quits again, seemingly forever. All of which is to say, just the fact that the band was all on the same stage for the first time in 12 years at the … [Read more...] about Pavement Takes the Stage for First Time in 12 Years at Rarities-Filled Tour Warmup Show in L.A.: Concert Review
While Bernie and Biden fought, Elizabeth Warren shone — and Julian Castro made an obvious bid for VP
The third Democratic debate started and ended with Julian Castro . “I worked under President Obama too!” the former secretary of housing and urban development reminded the crowd, when Joe Biden got a little too carried away with his own record under the popular former Democratic president; later, he made the charge that “Biden wants to take credit for the good things Obama did” while ignoring the bad. “Our problems didn’t start with Trump,” Castro said in his opening statement, “and we won’t solve them by going back to old ideas.” To hammer the point home, he called for an administration of “young, diverse Americans” — and then, an hour or so later, he said directly to Joe Biden, “I’m fulfilling the legacy of Barack Obama and you’re not.” There were audible gasps from the crowd. The man America once knew as Uncle Joe has been leaning on his record as Obama’s VP for a long time, and his opponents have now begun to dismantle that crutch. When he spoke about the … [Read more...] about While Bernie and Biden fought, Elizabeth Warren shone — and Julian Castro made an obvious bid for VP
“I discovered red ‘dots’ on my skin, a day later I was diagnosed with a rare cancer”
I want to be a dentist in the future, so in late 2021 I was at college in Florida doing pre-dental courses. I was balancing a lot because I was also on the basketball team and often had practice right after class. Originally, I was going to study closer to home, in Iowa, so I was juggling a lot with a new state and new friends. I hadn't been doing a good job of time management, so I was not getting much sleep and I was feeling run down but I wasn't really thinking anything of it. I had swollen lymph nodes and a little bit of a cold that I couldn't get over and I was getting easily bruised, but I'm a basketball player, so again, so I didn't think much of it. What happened next is kind of crazy; I really think it was God. I had been bruised and feeling fatigued for weeks, and in early November, my sister and brother-in-law came to Florida to visit me and watch my first home basketball game. We went out to dinner on Thursday November 11, after practice, and that's when I noticed the … [Read more...] about “I discovered red ‘dots’ on my skin, a day later I was diagnosed with a rare cancer”
Ratings Tank For The MTV Movie & TV Awards, Down A Staggering 42% From 2018
The TV ratings for the MTV Movie & TV Awards on Monday night were atrocious. The award show got only 1.8 million viewers on VH1, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, BET and CMT, According to The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday night . The 2018 show got 3.08 million viewers, which means the 2019 show saw a 42% drop. Anytime you lose 42% of your audience, that’s a really bad sign. It’s even worse this time around because that means not many people watched The Rock’s awesome speech during the program. For those of you who haven’t seen it yet, I suggest you give it a watch below. Feelin’ really inspired after @TheRock ‘s speech!! #MTVAwards pic.twitter.com/haVKwxgRwx — MTV (@MTV) June 18, 2019 I can’t blame people for not wanting to watch too many award shows . They get boring quick or they have a tendency to get political. Neither of those two options is overly appealing. I’m tuning in so that I can find out which movies are taking home awards . I … [Read more...] about Ratings Tank For The MTV Movie & TV Awards, Down A Staggering 42% From 2018
More Pilates, less beer: How Teven Jenkins is working to earn the trust of his new Chicago Bears coaches
Teven Jenkins was midway through a post-practice interview Tuesday at Halas Hall when he felt the need to give a heartfelt plug for one of the catalysts of his 2022 offseason. “I’ve got to name-drop my Pilates place,” he said. “Superior Pilates in Lake Forest. If you want a good workout, hit up Chris.” Indeed, Jenkins’ added attention to strengthening his core has helped him become sturdier and feel more confident as he heads into his second season with the Chicago Bears. Summer back surgery interrupted Jenkins’ rookie season before it got going and ultimately limited him to 161 offensive snaps over the final five games. But that health setback, Jenkins insisted, is an afterthought. And the increased Pilates work, while often grueling, has become a big part of his self-improvement. “You ever do a Pilates workout?” Jenkins said. “It is (torture). Oh, my god. Ooh. But it’s good for you. So I’m happy to do it.” As the Bears continue organized team activities during their … [Read more...] about More Pilates, less beer: How Teven Jenkins is working to earn the trust of his new Chicago Bears coaches
Brian Kemp Crushes Trump’s Dreams in Georgia One More Time
For the second time in less than two years, Georgia voters have dealt an embarrassing defeat to former Sen. David Perdue—and, by extension, to former President Donald Trump. On Tuesday night, Gov. Brian Kemp easily defeated Perdue in the Republican gubernatorial primary, with such a commanding lead that the Associated Press called the race by 8:30 p.m. That resounding victory means Kemp will head into his November rematch against Democrat Stacey Abrams without having to endure even a runoff contest against Perdue. That result is likely to be the biggest black mark on Trump’s endorsement record in this 2022 election season, which he is using to try and demonstrate his hold over the GOP. Despite Trump endorsing Perdue, campaigning personally for him, and diverting over $5 million to his campaign, Georgia Republicans decisively voted for someone who Trump has viciously attacked and blamed for his loss in the 2020 election. Many Republican voters might believe that Trump lost … [Read more...] about Brian Kemp Crushes Trump’s Dreams in Georgia One More Time
