Rosalind S. Helderman, The Washington Post Published 1:00 pm PST, Friday, November 16, 2018 WASHINGTON - George Papadopoulos, a former Trump campaign adviser who pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI, is asking a federal judge to keep him out of prison until a constitutional challenge to the special counsel investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election is resolved. In a motion filed Friday, Papadopoulos' lawyers revealed that he has been ordered to report to serve his 14-day sentence on Nov. 26. Papadopoulos's brief stint in prison would bring to a close a key piece of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation. A tip that Papadopoulos was told by a professor in London in April 2016 that the Russians had dirt on Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, in the form of thousands of emails, helped spark the first investigation into the Trump campaign and Russia in July 2016. Papadopoulos's lawyers argued Friday that he is not a flight risk, so they … [Read more...] about Former Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos asks for delay in imprisonment

NEW YORK — President Donald Trump confirmed on Tuesday that he is eying Goldman Sachs executive Dina Habib Powell, his former deputy national security advisor, as one of the main contenders to replace Nikki Haley as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. Haley announced her resignation on Tuesday, saying she will officially leave her post at the end of the year. Trump said that he would name Haley’s successor within two to three weeks. In one of many reports spotlighting Powell, CNBC cited “three people with direct knowledge of the matter” saying senior White House officials already reached out to Powell about the possibility of replacing Haley. Trump confirmed to reporters outside the White House that he is indeed considering Powell for the soon-to-be vacant UN post. “Dina is certainly a person I would consider and she is under consideration,” Trump said. He added that “there are others. I’ve heard a lot of names.” Powell has been … [Read more...] about Eight Significant Ties Between Dina Powell and the Clintons
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump "nodded with approval" at the suggestion of a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to a court filing Friday night that seeks leniency for a former campaign aide who lied to the FBI.Lawyers for George Papadopoulos are seeking probation, saying the foreign policy adviser misled agents during a January 2017 interview not to harm an investigation but rather to "save his professional aspirations and preserve a perhaps misguided loyalty to his master."Papadopoulos is a pivotal figure in special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation as the first Trump campaign aide to plead guilty and cooperate with prosecutors. The revelation that he'd been told by a professor during the campaign that Russia had "dirt" on Democrat Hillary Clinton in the form of emails helped trigger the FBI's counterintelligence investigation in July 2016 into potential coordination between Russia and the Trump campaign.RELATED: Trump campaign officials … [Read more...] about Former campaign aide George Papadopoulos says Trump ‘nodded’ at suggestion of Putin campaign meeting
George Papadopoulos, a former Trump campaign aide, will stick with his decision to plead guilty to one charge of making false statements to the Federal Bureau of Investigations, his wife Simona Mangiante Papadopoulos told Breitbart News on Wednesday. “George will take responsibility for some inaccuracies during the interview with the FBI. I hope though that the judge will take into account the irrelevance of those ‘inaccuracies’ at the purposes of the investigation and the lack of ‘criminal intention,'” she said in a statement. She had hinted about the possibility of the withdrawal of his guilty plea of making false statements to the FBI, after new information surfaced that suggested he was potentially set up by the FBI. He is set to be sentenced on September 7. Papadopoulos agreed in October 2017 to plead guilty to one count of making false statements to the FBI about when he had met a Maltese professor, Joseph Mifsud, who had told him that the Russians … [Read more...] about Simona Mangiante Papadopoulos Says Husband George Will Stick with Plea Deal
WASHINGTON -- Kellyanne Conway is in her living room, showing me an enormous painting of Audrey Hepburn wearing a peacock on her head, but her husband, George, really wants us to come into his office and look at a photograph of the moment everything changed. It's a picture he took on election night 2016: Donald Trump is reaching for the first draft of his acceptance speech, just as victory seemed imminent. Back then, George was such an ardent supporter of the president, and so proud of his wife for her historic role as campaign manager, that he wept for joy. "That photo was from before you cried," Kellyanne says"Now I cry for other reasons," George mutters.Kellyanne pretends to ignore that comment, something she's been doing a lot of lately."You gotta see this picture," George, 54, says. "You should like this, it's your boss.""He's not just my boss," Kellyanne, 51, says. "He's our president.""Yeah," George says, walking out of the room. "We'll see how long that lasts."Here at the … [Read more...] about She works for Trump. He can’t stand him. This is life for Kellyanne and George Conway.
