MINNEAPOLIS — Federal prosecutors asked a judge on Wednesday to sentence a former Minneapolis officer to 25 years for violating the rights of George Floyd, saying Derek Chauvin’s actions were cold-blooded and needless as he knelt on the Black man’s neck while Floyd repeatedly said he couldn’t breathe. Chauvin pleaded guilty in December to violating Floyd’s rights, admitting for the first time that he kept his knee on Floyd’s neck — even after he became unresponsive — resulting in Floyd’s death. Chauvin, who is white, admitted he willfully deprived Floyd of his right to be free from unreasonable seizure, including unreasonable force by a police officer, during the May 2020 arrest. $3.2M settlement reached in police killing of Daunte Wright
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 2 BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. (AP) — A suburban Minneapolis city has agreed to pay $3.2 million to the family of Daunte Wright, a Black man who was fatally shot by a police officer who said she confused her gun for her Taser. The tentative settlement also includes changes in police policies and training involving traffic stops like the one that resulted in Wright's death, according to a statement Tuesday night from attorneys representing Wright's family. Wright was shot once in the chest by Brooklyn Center Officer Kim Potter, who is white, after the 20-year-old was stopped for expired registration tags in April 2021. The former officer was subsequently convicted of first- and second-degree manslaughter and was sentenced to two years in prison. Potter is heard on video yelling “Taser” several times just before she fires her pistol. Wright’s family members “hope and believe the measures of … [Read more...] about $3.2M settlement reached in police killing of Daunte Wright
Ted Cruz ‘Halfway’ Expects Merrick Garland to Riot After ‘Roe’ Ruling
If and when the Supreme Court strikes down Roe v. Wade , Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) says it won’t be all that surprising to see Attorney General Merrick Garland among the rioters taking to the streets over the decision. Speaking to Sean Hannity, Cruz pointed to the civil rights protests and riots in 2020 after the killing of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer and said there could be more such riots after the Roe decision. “We’re going to see a reprise, I fear, of the Black Lives Matter and the Antifa riots where they’re going to try to use political violence to advance their ends, and the Department of Justice needs to step in and stop them,” Cruz told the Fox host. “I halfway expect the attorney general to be rioting alongside them because this Department of Justice has been so politicized,” he said. The department’s supposed politicization, Cruz has claimed, is evident by its handling of threats of violence against school officials, for instance. The … [Read more...] about Ted Cruz ‘Halfway’ Expects Merrick Garland to Riot After ‘Roe’ Ruling

The NBA legend said in a statement his Jordan Brand would distribute the money over 10 years to different organisations in a bid to stamp out "ingrained racism." The pledge is believed to be the largest financial contribution to non-profit groups ever made by a figure from the sports world. "It's 2020 and our family now includes anyone who aspires to our way of life," a joint statement from Jordan and his Jordan Brand said. "Yet as much as things have changed the worst remains the same. Mark Esper Showed a Little Spine After Monday, So We Know His Days Are Numbered
Secretary of Defense Mark Esper did the wrong thing before, days later, he did the right thing. Walking across Lafayette Park cleared by pepper gas and something called pepper-ball projectiles by troops on the order of the Attorney General William Barr , he was summoned to stand with the president, who was giving stage directions for his tableau where he would “dominate” the “battle space.” Esper was not innocent, but he did look flummoxed when Donald Trump pulled a Bible out of Ivanka’s purse and then didn’t read so much as a comforting passage. Five years ago, he famously remarked of the book, Old and New Testament, that they’re “equal” and “incredible” and he couldn’t possibly single out a verse. “I joke, very much so. They always hold up The Art of the Deal and I say my second favorite book of all time.” Of all the jokes Trump has gotten off, Monday’s march to St. John’s church that he’d visited one time in three years was the biggest. A day later, Esper tried to … [Read more...] about Mark Esper Showed a Little Spine After Monday, So We Know His Days Are Numbered
Trump-backed state lawmaker wants Jan. 6 “Remembrance Day”
A Republican lawmaker from Michigan has proposed a resolution that would declare January 6 as "Remembrance Day" while suggesting the violence at the Capitol that day was merely committed by a "few rogue and malicious agitators." State Representative Steve Carra, who had previously been endorsed by former President Donald Trump , submitted the proposal in a resolution riddled with conspiracy theories and outlandish claims. As well as proposing making the day of the insurrection a day of remembrance in Michigan, Carra also suggested that COVID-19 was a "man-made" virus and claimed that racism was on "life support" until it was "revived by the Marxist Black Lives Matter movement" during the protests and disorder which broke out in the wake of the murder of George Floyd in May 2020. Discussing January 6, Carra said it should be recognized as Remembrance Day due to the "heinous and tyrannical actions levied on society by an unhinged and politically motivated ruling elite." "We … [Read more...] about Trump-backed state lawmaker wants Jan. 6 “Remembrance Day”

Report: Violent Crime in 6 Dem-Run Cities on Track to Eclipse 2021’s Numbers
A number of Democrat-run cities in the United States have seen violent crime jump in 2022 compared to last year, a report has found . Per data reviewed by Fox News, rates of violent crime – comprised of homicide, rape, robbery, and assault – in New York City, Los Angeles, Washington, DC, Atlanta, Philadelphia, and Baltimore “are all on pace to break their 2021 levels.” While speaking with Fox News, Heather Mac Donald of the Manhattan Institute called the alarming jumps in violent crime the “ Ferguson Effect 2.0 or the Minneapolis Effect.” “George Floyd’s death at the hands of Minneapolis police in late May was justly condemned — but the event has now spurred an outpouring of contempt against the pillars of law and order that has no precedent in American history,” she explained. Democrat Mayor Eric Adams’s New York City is enduring the highest uptick in violent crime of any of the cities as there has been a 25.8 percent increase in homicide, rape, robbery, and assault, … [Read more...] about Report: Violent Crime in 6 Dem-Run Cities on Track to Eclipse 2021’s Numbers
