Political Matrix will focus on these groups and their aspirations in each state of India and decode their electoral choices. Universities in developing countries have multiple roles – teaching, learning, research and community engagements, as identified by education policy experts. However, another important role can be added to it – assisting the nation to address developmental challenges. One of the ways to do it is by producing relevant and impactful knowledge around ongoing development projects and social interventions. To play this role, universities, Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT), Indian Institutes of Management (IIM) and colleges across the country will need to work as a third eye to review and understand the development action initiated and implemented by states and their impact on various segments of … [Read more...] about Political Matrix | Time For Universities To Track On-Ground Development Initiatives, Act as Think Tanks
UIDAI Enrolls Over 79 Lakh Kids Below 5, IT Ministry Says Bal Aadhaar Registration is Progressing ‘Very Well’
More than 79 lakh children aged 0 to 5 years were enrolled for Baal Aadhaar from April to July in the current fiscal year, the Ministry of Electronics and IT has said. The ministry had announced on August 15 that the enrolment is part of the renewed effort to spread awareness about the Baal Aadhaar initiative among children below 5 years of age, and assist parents in taking advantage of its many benefits. “Collection of biometric (fingerprints and iris) is a key feature in issuing Aadhaar as the same is required to establish uniqueness based on de-duplication of these biometrics. However, for Aadhaar enrolment of children in the age group of 0-5 years, these biometrics are not collected,” the ministry said. When enrolling for ‘Baal Aadhaar’, proof of relationship document—preferably a birth certificate—is required. For biometric authentication, a parent or legal guardian needs to accompany a child under the age of 5 to the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra. NEW YORK (AP) — Wolfgang Petersen, the German filmmaker whose World War II submarine epic “Das Boot” propelled him into a blockbuster Hollywood career that included the films “In the Line of Fire,” “Air Force One” and “The Perfect Storm,” has died. He was 81. Petersen died Friday at his home in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Brentwood after a battle with pancreatic cancer, said representative Michelle Bega. Petersen, born in the north German port city of Emden, made two features before his 1982 breakthrough, “Das Boot,” then the most expensive movie in German film history. The 149-minute film (the original cut ran 210 minutes) chronicled the intense claustrophobia of life aboard a doomed German U-boat during the Battle of the Atlantic, with Jürgen Prochnow as the submarine’s commander. Heralded as an antiwar masterpiece, “Das Boot” was nominated for six Oscars, including for Petersen’s direction and his adaptation of Lothar-Günther Buchheim’s best-selling 1973 novel. … [Read more...] about Wolfgang Petersen, Blockbuster Filmmaker of ‘Das Boot,’ ‘In the Line of Fire,’ ‘The Perfect Storm’ Dies at 81
