Nearly three out of four European Union women think the COVID-19 pandemic has spurred an increase in physical and psychological violence against them, according to a Eurobarometer poll published on Friday. The poll, commissioned by the European Parliament ahead of Women’s Day on March 8, shows 77% of women in the EU think the pandemic caused a rise in gender violence in their countries, with nine in 10 respondents in Greece and Portugal saying so. Asked how to tackle the problem, 58% of interviewed women said it should be made easier to report gender violence. About a third of EU women said the pandemic had a negative impact on their personal income, according to the poll, which is based on a sample of nearly 27,000 women aged 15 or more from all 27 EU countries. “The results of the Eurobarometer survey confirm what we already know: the COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately affected women and girls in myriads of ways,” said lawmaker Robert Biedron, who chairs the European … [Read more...] about Most European Union Women Blame Covid Pandemic for Spike in Gender Violence: Poll

Church endorses transitions for transgender children “at all ages”
The Episcopal Church recently backed Episcopalians of any age seeking gender-affirming care in medical, social or other settings. The 80th General Convention, which is the highest governing body of the church, passed a resolution on the endorsement. It specified that Episcopalians seeking gender-affirming care would be accepted and supported by the church, a move that has sparked great debate on social media. The 80th General Convention met in Baltimore, Maryland, in July. The General Convention considered 412 resolutions, including Resolution D066 endorsing gender-affirming care, one of several controversial resolutions passed. Shortly after the resolution's approval, TransEpiscopal posted a blog on its website approving the act. "In the current political climate, the trans and non-binary community is being targeted," the post said. "In 2021, there were over 290 anti LGBTIQ bills introduced in various states across the county, twenty-five of which became law. Eight of those … [Read more...] about Church endorses transitions for transgender children “at all ages”
Who is Sanna Marin? 34-year-old Finnish lawmaker to become world’s youngest prime minister
A 34-year-old Finnish lawmaker is set to become the world's youngest prime minister. Transportation minister Sanna Marin will take charge of a coalition government after being selected by her Social Democratic Party to replace outgoing Antti Rinne, the BBC reported . Rinne quit as prime minister after one party in the coalition government said it had lost confidence in him due to the way he had handled a postal strike. Marin will likely be sworn in this week, becoming the youngest prime minister in Finlands's history, and the youngest currently in office around the world, beating New Zealand's Jacinda Ardern, 39, and Ukraine's Oleksiy Honcharuk, 35. She is the third female in the country's history to be selected for the top job. "We have a lot of work ahead to rebuild trust," Marin told reporters after narrowly winning her party's vote ahead of runner-up Antti Lindtman. Federal Judges Expand Disability Law to Enforce Transgender Demands
A three-judge federal panel has declared people who say they are members of the opposite sex can use a 1990 disability law to enforce their demands on other people and groups. “We have little trouble concluding that a law excluding from ADA [Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990] protection both ‘gender identity disorders’ and gender dysphoria would [unconstituionally] discriminate against transgender people as a class,” said the opinion by Judge Diana Gribbon Motz, who was nominated by President Bill Clinton. The 2:1 decision by the Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit may be appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court. If the case survives, it will be used by advocacy groups to push the transgender ideology on state and local government, schools, companies, and civic groups. The ideology insists that each person’s male-or-female sex is determined by their inner feelings of “gender identity,” regardless of other people’s recognition of their male or female body. That demand … [Read more...] about Federal Judges Expand Disability Law to Enforce Transgender Demands
