ARAU: The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry is looking to tackle the problem of abuse of subsidised cooking oil to ensure that the issue does not recur, says its Deputy Minister Datuk Rosol Wahid. He said this included misappropriation committed by certain parties who mixed subsidised cooking oil with used cooking oil to be sold to biodiesel processing companies. Rosol said used cooking oil that was processed for the biodiesel industry is being sold at a higher price than subsidised cooking oil. "We have information that used cooking oil can reach up to RM4.20 per kg compared with RM2.50 per kg for subsidised cooking oil," he said, adding that the ministry is finding ways to resolve the problem. "Two days ago, the Johor state ministry busted a syndicate involved in the misappropriation of subsidised cooking oil in a raid on a factory in Kota Masai, Pasir Gudang, and action has been taken against the culprits," he told reporters after launching the student consumer … [Read more...] about Ministry to look into issue of subsidised cooking oil abuse, says Rosol

Around-the-world Ocean Race sets gender equality target
The Ocean Race, a yacht race around the world, is aiming to have an equal number of men and women competing in the event by 2030, it said on Thursday. The Ocean Race, held every three or four years since 1973, said it hopes to achieve the target through mixed crews or all-female teams. A 2019 strategic review by World Sailing Trust into women in sailing showed that 80% of women and 56% of men think that gender equality is an issue in the sport, while 59% of women said they had experienced gender discrimination. “Not only are women missing out on opportunities, the profession is also missing out on the skills, strength and talent that they bring to the table,” said Anne-Cecile Turner, Sustainability Director at The Ocean Race. “Sailing can secure its reputation, and its future, by coming together as an industry. We need to build bridges, not work in silos.” Recommended Caitlyn Jenner says she backs ban of transgender swimmers from women's events … [Read more...] about Around-the-world Ocean Race sets gender equality target

Far-Left Democrats Propose ‘Transgender Bill of Rights’
Radical House Democrats introduced a bill on Tuesday that would enshrine “gender identity” into discrimination law and prohibit religious objections. The bill, named the “ Transgender Bill of Rights ” would amend the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to outlaw discrimination on the basis of “gender identity” in public accommodations and federally funded programs and activities. The legislation is led by Reps. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) David Cicilline (D-RI), Marie Newman (D-IL), Mark Takano (D-CA) and Ritchie Torres (D-NY) . The bill “explicitly clarif[ies] that it is illegal to discriminate on the basis of…gender identity or sex characteristics in public accommodations and services on religious grounds…” The legislation is out of touch with the views of the majority of Americans, 60 percent of whom believe sex is determined by biology, recent polling shows. The bill also takes aim at Republican state laws that protect women and girls’ spaces. Palace’s ‘obsession with secrecy’ over Meghan bullying review is a ‘danger’
Buckingham Palace's "obsession with secrecy" over a review into how bullying allegations against Meghan Markle were handled is a "danger," a former Government minister told Newsweek . The Duchess of Sussex was accused of bullying two PAs out of the royal household in an October 2018 email that was leaked to the media days before her March 2021 Oprah Winfrey interview. She has consistently denied the allegations. Buckingham Palace launched a review of how the accusations were handled, conducted by an outside law firm, but more than a year later has announced that nothing will be published . A senior palace source said the staff who contributed to the review were promised confidentiality, meaning both the recommendations and changes to HR policy would be kept private. Norman Baker, author of royal book And What Do You Do? , told Newsweek he dealt with similar confidentiality issues when he was a U.K. Government minister. He said: "Of course, some people need to be … [Read more...] about Palace’s ‘obsession with secrecy’ over Meghan bullying review is a ‘danger’
How Ukraine recaptured Snake Island from Russia
Ukraine's army released a video on Thursday showing how its forces successfully recaptured Snake Island from Russia , shortly after Moscow said it withdrew its forces from the strategic Black Sea outpost as a "gesture of goodwill." Moscow said on Thursday that its forces had "finished fulfilling their tasks" and "demonstrated that Russia is not blocking the UN's efforts to organise a humanitarian corridor to export agricultural goods from Ukraine." Kyiv pushed back against Russia's statement, saying that it drove Russian President Vladimir Putin 's troops from the island with military force in an overnight assault. Ukraine's armed forces released a video showing an offensive on the island, which made headlines in the early days of the war when Ukrainians stationed there told a Russian cruiser: "Russian warship, go f**k yourself!" "Unable to withstand the fire of Ukraine's artillery, missile and air strikes, Russian army left Snake Island," the commander-in-chief of the … [Read more...] about How Ukraine recaptured Snake Island from Russia
Ukraine “big victory” at Snake Island could be a turning point
Russian troops withdrawing from Ukraine's Snake Island in the Black Sea, after repeated bombardments, could have wide-ranging significance, current and former Ukrainian officials have said. Snake Island became globally famous thanks to the now-legendary "go f*** yourself" response of the defending garrison when told to surrender to a Russian warship. Moscow has explained the withdrawal as a "gesture of goodwill" that shows Russia is "not impeding [United Nations] efforts to organize a humanitarian corridor to ship agricultural products from Ukraine," and avoid catastrophic global food shortages. But Ukrainian officials have dismissed Russia's explanation and declared the regaining of the island after 127 days of occupation as a significant strategic and symbolic victory. Andriy Zagorodnyuk, Ukraine's former defense minister, told Newsweek the forced Russian withdrawal denies Moscow use of what was essentially an "unsinkable ship." The island hosted Russian … [Read more...] about Ukraine “big victory” at Snake Island could be a turning point
