As the sun set over Maury Island, just south of Seattle, Ben Goertzel and his jazz fusion band had one of those moments that all bands hope for — keyboard, guitar, saxophone and lead singer coming together as if they were one. Dr. Goertzel was on keys. The band’s friends and family listened from a patio overlooking the beach. And Desdemona, wearing a purple wig and a black dress laced with metal studs, was on lead vocals, warning of the coming Singularity — the inflection point where technology can no longer be controlled by its creators. “The Singularity will not be centralized!” she bellowed. “It will radiate through the cosmos like a wasp!” After more than 25 years as an artificial intelligence researcher — a quarter-century spent in pursuit of a machine that could think like a human — Dr. Goertzel knew he had finally reached the end goal: Desdemona, a … [Read more...] about A.I. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 3 Throughout her century-long life, Ruth Gottstein broke new ground as an activist and publisher in the fields of domestic violence, women’s health, civil rights, gay rights and the La Raza movement as well as being an avid outdoorswoman. It emerged on Friday Spanish state prosecutors are demanding the stiff jail sentence if the shapely singer is convicted at trial. Earlier this week the Colombian-born mum-of-two confirmed she had rejected an out-of-court deal believed to have involved her admitting to wrongdoing after she was charged with defrauding the Spanish treasury over a three-year period between 2012 and 2014. The fact that such a failure has garnered minimal coverage and therefore public attention, while manifesting itself in the corruption of our republican system, demonstrates the disingenuousness of our ruling regime's otherwise-hysterical "democracy defenders." … [Read more...] about The outrageous, republic-distorting census error you’ve heard nothing about | Opinion
