A man who set out to find his birth parents ended up playing matchmaker. Martin Schmidt knew he was adopted, but it wasn't until he found out he was going to be a father that he decided to seek out his birth parents. The next four years unfolded like a movie. Martin, 36, was a newborn when he was adopted. His birth mother, Michele Newman, was just 16 years old when she found out she was pregnant, several months after she and her high school boyfriend, Dave Lindgren, broke up. "I struggled with this decision," Michele told CBS News correspondent Vladimir Duthiers, "but I just prayed… adoption was the best choice." She said she "never" stopped thinking about the child. Michele and Dave went their separate ways after Martin's adoption. Michele moved to Hawaii. Dave stayed in Wisconsin and had several children and step-children. In 2014, when Martin had a baby of his own on the way, he got in contact with his birth mom. She, in turn, reached out to Dave."We talked until 2 o'clock … [Read more...] about Man who set out to find birth parents ends up becoming matchmaker

Thirteen years since their first arrival in Vietnam, a couple from Ireland has now returned for a mission to help their adopted Vietnamese daughters search for their biological parents. David and Suzanne Doran had their first child in 2001, and later became enthralled by the idea of adopting children. They started attending adoption conferences, meeting with Irish families that had successfully adopted children from Vietnam, and completing all the paperwork for the major decision. But it was not until four years later that the good news arrived: a Vietnamese infant who had been abandoned by her own mother after birth was a perfect match. The baby girl, named Van, had been taken in by the Child Welfare and Protection Center of Go Vap District in Ho Chi Minh City after efforts to find her birth mother were in vain. A documentary by Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper about Vietnam-born children returning to their birth country in search of their biological parents. At six months old, Van was … [Read more...] about Irish couple visits Vietnam to find biological parents of adopted daughters
POPE Francis has compared abortion to the Nazi-era eugenics “pure breeding” programme while urging families to accept babies "as God gives them to us." The Argentinian-born Pontiff spoke off-the-cuff at an Italian family association meeting, ditching his prepared remarks to speak from the heart. Francis recalled that as a child he was horrified to hear stories from his teacher about children "thrown from the mountain" if they were born with disabilities. "Today we do the same thing," he said. "Last century, the whole world was scandalised by what the Nazis did to purify the race. “Today, we do the same thing but with white gloves.” Under Adolf Hitler's … [Read more...] about Pope Francis says having abortions after finding birth defects is the same as Hitler’s pure-breeding programme
