PARIS (Reuters) - Liverpool midfielders Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho are fit and ready to feature in the Champions League final against Real Madrid, manager Juergen Klopp said on Friday. Thiago was substituted with a muscle issue in the first half of Sunday's final Premier League game against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Fabinho has not played since hobbling off with a hamstring tweak during the 2-1 win over Aston Villa on May 10. Klopp, who last week was pessimistic about Thiago and said he would likely miss the clash in Paris on Saturday, broke the good news to Liverpool fans at a news conference at the Stade de France. "It looks good for both Thiago and Fabinho," Klopp told reporters. "Fabinho has trained normal, Thiago trained with the team yesterday and will train today and then we'll go from there. Mood is very good, very excited about being here. Getting a feeling for the stadium and the location." A new pitch was installed at the Stade de France earlier in the week … [Read more...] about Soccer-Thiago and Fabinho fit and ready for Champions League final, Klopp says

Oil climbs on tight supply, prospect of EU ban on Russian supply
Oil prices rose on Thursday, extending a cautious rally this week on signs of tight supply while the European Union (EU) wrangles with Hungary over plans to ban imports from Russia, the world's second-largest crude exporter, after it invaded Ukraine. Brent crude futures gained 87 cents, or 0.8%, to $114.90 a barrel at 1001 GMT. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures climbed $1.02, or 0.9%, to $111.35 a barrel. A bigger-than-expected drawdown in U.S. crude inventories in the week to May 20, following soaring exports, buoyed the market on Wednesday. U.S. refiners picked up the pace of activity, boosting overall capacity use to the highest levels since before the pandemic. "The fundamental backdrop ... is getting price supportive as the driving season is approaching and will turn even more bullish once the EU sanctions on Russian oil sales are endorsed by all parties involved," PVM Oil's Tamas Varga said. European Council President Charles Michel on Wednesday said he was … [Read more...] about Oil climbs on tight supply, prospect of EU ban on Russian supply

Governor saw deadly arrest video months before prosecutors
Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards and his top lawyers privately watched a key video of Black motorist Ronald Greene drawing his final breaths in his deadly 2019 arrest six months before prosecutors even knew the footage existed. While the Democratic governor has distanced himself from allegations of a cover-up in the explosive case by contending evidence was promptly turned over to authorities, an Associated Press investigation found that neither Edwards, his staff nor the state police he oversees acted urgently to get the crucial footage into the hands of those with the power to charge the white troopers seen stunning, punching and dragging Greene. The video shows a bruised and bloody Greene going limp and drawing his final breaths — critical moments and audio that are absent from other footage turned over. It wouldn't reach prosecutors until nearly two years after Greene’s May 10, 2019, death on a rural roadside near Monroe. Now three years have passed and still no … [Read more...] about Governor saw deadly arrest video months before prosecutors

Simon Cowell reveals why he cut back on work and if there will be X Factor revival
Before the pandemic, Simon Cowell was the epitome of a workaholic, known for working into the early hours. But as he prepares for the live semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent, the 62-year-old is a changed man, looking fitter and more refreshed. Sitting on a sofa in his London home, Simon insists life is no longer all about work and says he now puts son Eric and fiancee Lauren first. Though he would later say he’d happily take on an X Factor reboot, he tells me: “I do think I have got the work/life balance right, particularly with Eric because he’s eight now. “The only good thing about the coronavirus was that during the lockdown we spent a lot of time together – and I love his company. “Once we came out of lockdown, I had to make a decision, which was do I go back to what I was doing before? Or do I do a little bit less and I’m able to spend more time with him? That’s what I decided to do. Simon is focusing on his family ( Image: PA) He has been getting … [Read more...] about Simon Cowell reveals why he cut back on work and if there will be X Factor revival

Heat’s Spoelstra sticks with same starters vs. Celtics; groin strain keeps Tyler Herro out again
Despite point guard Kyle Lowry being limited by a balky hamstring and despite a shooting slump by guard Max Strus, Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra opted against a lineup change for Friday night’s Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals at TD Garden. “These are tough decisions. We’re going with that lineup,” he said, with his team going into the night down 3-2 to the Boston Celtics in the best-of-seven series. “It’s been a really successful lineup.” The Heat have started that lineup throughout the playoffs when injuries have not gotten in the way of opening with Bam Adebayo, P.J. Tucker, Jimmy Butler, Lowry and Strus. “This is a fast-moving series,” Spoelstra said. “And that happens with two competitive teams: Who can get to who? Who can get to their strengths more often? Who can take the other team out of their strengths? “It’s a fine line between doing those things and making adjustments. But that’s part of the deal.” The reserve rotation, though, remained altered, … [Read more...] about Heat’s Spoelstra sticks with same starters vs. Celtics; groin strain keeps Tyler Herro out again
