Queen Elizabeth II Trolled Trump With Obama Brooch During Visit, Reports Say

· July 18, 2018 ·

World Donald Trump Queen Elizabeth II Trump U.K. Visit President Donald Trump may have secured his long-awaited meeting with Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II last week, but it appears the monarch may not have been particularly happy to see him. According to The Hill, the Queen wore a brooch given to her by former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama on the day of Trump arrived in the country, which has been seen by many as a subtle attack on the current president, who is widely unpopular in the U.K. Also known as the American State Visit brooch, the jewelry was gifted to the 92-year-old ruler by the Obamas during their 2011 trip to the U.K. The 14-karat gold item was made in the U.S. in 1950 from yellow gold, diamonds and moss agate. It was chosen from Washintgon, D.C.'s Tiny Jewel Box store. Review of Basic Idea of Document Culling

· December 10, 2015 ·

This is part Twelve of the continuing series on two-filter document culling. (Yes, we are going for a world record on longest law blog series.:) Document culling is very important to successful, economical document review. Please read part eleven before this one. Review of Basic Idea of Two Filter Search and ReviewIn multimodal projects where predictive coding is used the precision rates can often be very high. Lately I have been seeing that the second pool of documents, subject to the manual review has precision rates of at least 80%, sometimes even as high as 95% near the end of a CAL project. That means the final pool of documents produced is almost as large as the pool after the Second Filter. Please remember that almost every document that is manually reviewed and coded after the Second Filter gets recycled back into the machine training process. This is known as Continuous Active Learning or CAL, and in my version of it at least, is multimodal and not … [Read more...] about Review of Basic Idea of Document Culling

To Cull a Mockingbird: Popular, but Risky, “Keyword” Collection Filter

· July 24, 2015 ·

This is part four of the continuing series on two-filter document culling. Please read part one and part two and part three first. Hopefully you will like this part four sequel better than Harper Lee’s sequel.First Filterkeyword, even though this is very risky in some cases and inappropriate in many. Quite frankly, keyword filtering and collection is an old black and white type version of e-discovery, one that is rarely used in large cases. Typically such keyword filtering is driven by vendor costs to avoid processing and hosting charges. I have a better solution to the cost issue, certainly better than the sequel to To Kill a Mockingbird,  but elaboration would take us too far astray.See eg, William Webber’s analysis of the Biomet case where this kind of keyword filtering was use before predictive coding began. What is the maximum recall in re Biomet?, Evaluating e-Discovery (4/24/13). Webber shows that in Biomet this method First Filtered out over … [Read more...] about To Cull a Mockingbird: Popular, but Risky, “Keyword” Collection Filter

Trump Makes ‘Extraordinary’ Claims About Queen Elizabeth II Meeting

· July 18, 2018 ·

World Donald Trump Queen Elizabeth II Trump U.K. Visit U.S. President Donald Trump’s trip to Europe last week spawned inumerable headlines and a significant number of diplomatic gaffes. The 45th president threatened his NATO allies, told British Prime Minister Theresa May to sue the European Union and sided with Russian President Vladimir Putin against his own intelligence agencies. He also managed to “disrespect” the world’s longest-serving monarch, the world cringing at footage of the president inspecting troops alongside—and briefly in the way of—Queen Elizabeth II. Apparently oblivious to how his performance was received, Trump has now proudly announced that the review was a special honor conferred on him by the Queen, and the first time the monarch has inspected her royal guard for 70 years, the Independent has reported.  Recommended Slideshows 76 The Most Powerful Military Forces in the World 59 The 25 Most Powerful … [Read more...] about Trump Makes ‘Extraordinary’ Claims About Queen Elizabeth II Meeting

AOC-Backed Public Defender Claims Win in Queens DA Primary

· June 25, 2019 ·

The national fight between left-wing and moderate Democrats was playing out again Tuesday in New York City, where the closely watched Democratic primary for Queens district attorney was tantalizingly close deep into the vote count. Late on election day, political newcomer Tiffany Caban, a public defender who says the criminal justice system is rigged against the poor, held a lead of around 1,100 votes over Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, a seasoned politician who was the favorite of the state's Democratic Party establishment. At Caban's election night headquarters, raucous supporters celebrated as she claimed victory. "When we started this thing, they said I was too young. They said I didn't look like a district attorney. They said we could not build a movement from the grass roots. They said we could not win. But we did it y'all," she said. But the race might not be decided soon. Thousands of absentee ballots received by mail won't be opened and counted for at least several … [Read more...] about AOC-Backed Public Defender Claims Win in Queens DA Primary
