Chappie Stars Discuss Robot Fights, Animated Butlers and Mullets
At a press conference for media who had just watched a screening of Neill Blomkamp's movie Chappie , some bizarre questions were traded on what would make an ideal robot, the art of creating the most stereotypical Australian character, and which comic book hero or robot would win in a fight. Why do themes like artificial intelligence keep resonating with humanity as we advance? Neill Blomkamp: My point of view on AI, which ties into the nature for humans constantly looking into the reasons for why we exist and why consciousness exists, changed during the making of Chappie . I'm not actually completely sure that humans are going to be capable of giving birth to AI in the way that films fictionalize it. You have weak artificial intelligence which is like a robot or computer system that follows a list of protocols that are yes, no answers that can be as complex as you want. And then you have strong AI, which is basically like a human, something that can think up a thought … [Read more...] about Chappie Stars Discuss Robot Fights, Animated Butlers and Mullets
“Self-sabotaging”: Furious mom slammed after new boyfriend forgot birthday
Mumsnet users warned a woman not to "self-sabotage," after she expressed disappointment with her new boyfriend's lack of planning skills. In a post shared to the parenting site's relationship forum on June 29, user hotnakedgelato explained that she had been dating the man for four months, and things were getting serious. However, she was having second thoughts after he failed to organize her birthday dinner. She wrote: "We have seemingly been crazy for each other (while not moving that quickly) and have a mutual understanding that we are moving into a serious LTR. "My birthday is in less than two weeks. He asked a few weeks ago what my birthday preference is and I said acknowledgment and to be taken out for dinner. "It's been crickets since then, until yesterday I finally pointed out that he hasn't asked if/when I am free. He said thanks for reminding him, he forgot." According to a 2018 poll of 2,000 Americans, 35 percent of people surveyed said their significant other had … [Read more...] about “Self-sabotaging”: Furious mom slammed after new boyfriend forgot birthday
Meghan and Harry’s fly-on-the-wall Netflix show – top director, home life and Queen’s ban

As one of the most talked about couples of the decade, it was hardly surprising that they managed to secure a number of multi-million dollar business deals - but the one that fans were most excited about was their partnership with TV streaming giant, Netflix. Director Neill Blomkamp Wants to Break Your Heart With Sweet, Gun-Toting Robot Chappie
Culture Films Robots Hugh Jackman Watching Chappie , the latest sci-fi-film-with-a-moral by South African director Neill Blomkamp, will be a disorienting experience for some viewers. Superhero Hugh Jackman stomps through scenes as a baddie with cargo shorts, a thick Australian accent and a thicker mullet. South African rap-hip-hop band Die Antwoord play musicians-gangsters. And the film's title character is an eerily life-like robot who makes E.T. look like a hardass. Bring on the weird. But Chappie also touches on a few issues that give it an air of seriousness, including crime, automated warfare, police brutality and artificial intelligence. Beneath the film's explosive visual effects, comic elements and frenetic pace, lies a disillusionment with how cruel humanity can be. As Blomkamp puts it, are robots "capable of being more human than the humans around them?" Chappie , which opens in theaters March 6, depicts a dystopian Johannesburg driven to desperation … [Read more...] about Director Neill Blomkamp Wants to Break Your Heart With Sweet, Gun-Toting Robot Chappie
How to maintain clothing over time from downtown abbey vintage supplier
While many of us are looking to be more sustainable when it comes to our wardrobe, it can be easy to fall into the "fast fashion" trap of buying cheap clothes only for them to fall apart in a matter of months. One way of avoiding this is buying second hand or investing in pieces from truly eco-friendly brands, which can often be considerably more expensive than high-street pieces. So, how can consumers who are hesitant about investing in pieces ensure their clothing stands the test of time? Anita Lo, 28, from Cheshire, England, is the founder of Clara's Box—an online vintage store specializing in clothing from the 1800s to the 1990s and antique objects. Her global customer base includes various high-profile clients including the Downton Abbey costume design team and American fashion designer Connor Ives. The store, founded in December 2020, currently sells a number of antique bodices from the 1800s and Anita sources, washes, mends, photographs, sells and packs all items … [Read more...] about How to maintain clothing over time from downtown abbey vintage supplier
Poll: Illinois Governor’s Election a 7-Point Race
The race for governor in Illinois is a 7-point race, a Fabrizio Lee survey released this week found. Democrat Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) won the Democrat primary in his state this week and will face off against Republican challenger state Sen. Darren Bailey (R) in the general election. According to a Fabrizio Lee survey released this week, just seven points separate the two gubernatorial hopefuls. The survey asked, “If the election for Governor were held today and the candidates were Darren Bailey the Republican and J.B. Pritzker, the Democrat, for whom would you vote?” Fifty percent said they would vote for the Democrat incumbent, compared to 43 percent who chose Bailey. However, Bailey has a commanding edge with independent voters, as they chose him over Pritzker 50 percent to 34 percent — a difference of 16 points. Notably, the 7-point gap between the two is the same percentage as undecideds — 7 percent. More generally speaking, most Illinois voters are not happy with … [Read more...] about Poll: Illinois Governor’s Election a 7-Point Race

OPINION | Time to Retire ‘Terror Has No Religion’ Cliché
India has been facing the menace of terrorism unleashed by the Islamic Republic of Pakistan since 1980. Liberal political parties across the world kept the fake narrative of ‘terror has no religion’ on to appease Muslim and liberal vote banks in their respective countries. The western world kept preaching to India on secularism and restraint, till they faced it themselves. The UK faced it in 2005 during the central London bombings, which targeted civilians using the public transport system during morning rush hour. Three bombs went off on three separate trains on the London Underground and one on a double-decker bus. Fifty-two other people were killed and around 700 more were injured. The US faced terrorism in 2011 during the heinous 9/11 attacks by Al-Qaeda, in which nearly 3,000 people died. France, with Europe’s largest Muslim community, has suffered a string of militant attacks in recent years. The November 2015 attack in Paris killed 130 people. The 2016 attack in Nice … [Read more...] about OPINION | Time to Retire ‘Terror Has No Religion’ Cliché
